This was one of my best omakase experiences. Chef Keith is a pro and obsesses over serving highest quality fish. He is very creative with is menu and engaging with customers. He explains each piece of sushi and some backstory while serving. Can’t recommend this place enough. You have to book in advance. Worth the price.
Quality food! This was my first omakase experience and it was wonderful. The delicate sushi, the wonderful server, and the interactive chef...it was a great night! Every single dish was a new flavor and each came with a thorough explanation. I wish I had photos of the dishes, but they were too good to let sit for a photo. Fish were mostly from Japan and the prawns were from New Zealand last night. The metal/punk/alternative music was also refreshing. I wonder what their take out food is like. I will definitely be back to Kamizato!
Our omakase dinner last night was super tasty! We made the reservation over the phone a week in advance, and the staff kindly asked for the price range we wanted to experience. Although she says their customers usually go for $100-$120 pp, we opted for an $80 pp experience and it was just fine! The omakase was 10 pieces of nigiri, with a miso soup break in the middle. Chef K explained that he imports all the fish he serves directly from Japan, and he also prepares his own soy sauce with different flavours which he puts on the fish. We thought every piece was tasty, different, flavourful, fresh, and at the right temperature! Chef K came over to say his thanks at the end of our experience and served us complimentary plum wine—a sweet way to end the meal! Tbh this place was a bit far and out of my way, but will revisit again on special occasions!
An authentic and superb omakase experience in the suburbs of PoCo. They import fresh seafood weekly and the menu changes depending on what they get in that week. You have to call in ahead of time to grab a seat but keep in mind that they only take about 5 tables per day. You can tell that the chef is very passionate about his food and it shows in every piece of his sushi. I especially enjoyed engawa - a flat fish that is quite rich and oily - it almost dissolves in your mouth! The bluefin tunas were also exceptional - both o-toro and chu-toro - but I would say that there were no pieces that I disliked throughout the omakase. I can't believe that I only found this gem after living in the lower mainland for over 15 years but I will be coming back in the near future for more amazing sushi. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants authentic Japanese omakase experience with quality ingredients without travelling all the way to downtown Vancouver.
We have been living in the area more than 10 years and just noticed the Sushi place that is doing omakase. Excellent quality of food with the nice couple. If you like omakase, that’s the must go place in great Vancouver!
We’re from Ontario and came here to visit. My cousin had been raving about sushi K for years so I had to give it a try. This was, honestly, the highlight of my trip and one of the best food experiences I’ve ever had. Keith chef k and his wife are absolutely incredible. They created a comfortable, unassuming, unique environment where you have incredible sushi at the bar, listen to the heavy metal playing in the background, and get to learn about the different cuts of sushi from. It was so fun! Keith is an artist and takes pride in his work. Each piece of sushi is an experience in itself. Carefully put together to balance the richness and flavour of the fish imported from Japan with his creativity. I cant recommend this enough. If you can, put a budget of ~$100, grab a seat at the bar, a bottle or 3 of sake, and ask Keith about how he assembled each of the pieces and about the metal bands that have had listening parties here! Looking forward to seeing you the next time we’re in Vancouver, Keith : - Tuba, Rahi, and Jasleen
The most amazing experience one can have expect from a legendary sushi chef!!! This is not the place for a California roll. This is a place for experimenting a mouth full of flavours!
Wow what an amazing omakase experience! It was truly awesome. The sushi here shown was out of this world good! Almost everything he serves is imported over. Chef K gets the freshest fishes available! Set your budget and Chef K will deliver you an omakase experience you'll keep coming back for.
Keith is a master at his craft. His creations are delicious and to me, his restaurant has the best sushi in the lower mainland. Keith and his wife, Chika, are the best hosts. We've been going here for years and the meals never disappoint. You definitely want to try his special menu items and his weekly imported fish from Japan. If his restaurant was downtown, prices would easily be double. Great price point for the quality of food you're receiving. Definitely recommend the aburi toro and tiger's eye! Give this gem in Port Coquitlam a chance - you won't regret it!
I have heard raves from friends, but since I have not had a lot of sashimi, I wasn't sure if I was going to be over my head. It was awesome, this wasn't a generic roll place! Really great flavours and textures. I loved the atmosphere, being a metal fan, it was a walk down memory lane. I am looking forward to my next visit!!!
