I've lived in several U.S. states, including some of the busiest, most chaotic cities you can imagine—but nothing compares to the lack of civility I’ve experienced since moving to Surrey. In over 40 years, this is by far the most disrespectful and poorly managed place I’ve ever lived.nnTo start, basic road etiquette is almost non-existent. Drivers don’t just ignore traffic laws—they aggressively honk when I stop for pedestrians, as if following the law is an inconvenience to them. Honking and shouting seem to be the norm here, not the exception.nnCondo management is just as careless. Elevators break and stay broken for months without explanation or urgency to fix them. It’s as if tenant well-being is the last thing on their minds.nnThe noise pollution is relentless. Day and night, the streets are filled with the roar of cheap, modified mufflers. The sound is so aggressive I can’t even open my windows without being blasted by exhaust and engine noise. I’ve lived in cities people with mufflers in the U.S., but nothing was ever this invasive or constant. It's exhausting—physically and mentally.nnAnd to make matters worse, this lack of courtesy doesn’t stop at the border. I’ve witnessed people from Surrey—and the Vancouver area as a whole—driving in Washington State with the same disregard for basic driving mannersnnWhat’s worse is the absence of basic manners or social respect. In areas like Surrey Central, I only feel remotely comfortable when Fraser Health employees are nearby—they’re the only ones who bring a shred of decency to the atmosphere. Otherwise, the public behavior is rude, dismissive, and at times, downright hostile. And no matter who you are or what your background is, people treat you differently based on race. Period.nnI also have a Canadian citizenship, but living in Surrey, it doesn’t feel like it matters. Here, you’re not seen as a fellow citizen—you’re reduced to your race. That’s not just unacceptable; it’s disgraceful.
In the heart of Surrey, opposite side of the Civic Hotel and spitting distance from Surrey Central Station. Well designed modern building, lot of sunlight and nicely decorated.nnThere is plenty of parking underground in three levels. For city hall visitors, the first 2 hours of parking are free, and you need to register your vehicle registration number on the ground floor ipad, opposite side of the elevator.
Beautiful, well designed building with lots of sunlight and meeting rooms. Staff there are friendly and very helpful. There are paid underground parking that's connected to the Surrey public library next door. EV charging stations can be found on p1.
These road lane reflectors has been scraped up by plow trucks during the last snow storm that we had and its littered all over roads. They posed the danger of getting hit by vehicles and getting launched; potentially hurting someone of damaging something. Please clean it up and design the installation better
Surrey City Hall is an impressive and modern facility! The architecture is stunning, and the interior is spacious and welcoming. I appreciate the community events and public art displays that make the area vibrant.
