Story

The seeds of Sunterra took root on the family farm over 40 years ago in Acme, Alberta. With superior hogs and industry-leading practices, the farm grew bigger and better. To showcase the top quality meat and provide customers with a unique European-style shopping experience, Sunterra Market launched in downtown Calgary at Bankers Hall in 1990. Since then we have been working tirelessly to exceed customers’ needs in our nine markets across Alberta.

At Sunterra, our purpose remains constant: to nourish our customers with affordable, fresh, wholesome food.

We come to this Sunterra west market location ALL THE TIME! It is perfect for quick stops, fresh deli items, produce and ready meals and sides for healthy convenience! Here’s another cool thing — they have a restaurant inside that is inexpensive for a quick meal and stop. It has a laid back feel and the staff are incredible - always smiling!
This is an expensive place to do your grocery shopping but I like the atmosphere of the store, very clean and nice arrangement of items. Additionaly, it's not a busy place so you can do your shopping calmly. The bakery section is very nice. Also, they have prepared food to eat there or to take out. There are some tables to have your food there.
This place is expensive holy moly. The produce is less desirable than blush lane and about the same cost, on that note the positive is the atmosphere and squeaky clean in store shopping experience as this place is kept very clean. Staff are not as friendly as other grocery stores but it is not the worst either. Still with all that constructive feedback I enjoy shopping here. This is probably best defined as a 3.8 star review so I am rounding up. Many of the same products today are no longer niched at this store but instead offered at an affordable price by competitors. I come here mostly for a quick Italian coffee, or delicious cheese options for dinner entertainment appetizers. The bakery is really nice offering great desserts worthy of the price. The Italian meats are well done and pre cooked or marinated options are fantastic for cooking cheat for the chef of the house. Enjoy! I will check this out again in a few months.
We like their pork and beef. It is very reasonably priced for the quality. Their own produce is fresh, nice quality, and reasonably priced. Yes, packaged goods are expensive here, but their strength is their own products. They have so many prepared meal options for when you are in a pinch made from their own produce, which is why it's so cheap. We also enjoy the hot breakfasts and specials. Everything is smartly under-seasoned/salted so you can dress up the food the way you like at home.
A last-minute positive COVID test at our hosts meant a change in plans for Christmas Dinner. We placed an order for two Ready-to-Eat turkey dinners from the market and picked them up on Christmas Eve. The meals included a salad, a soup, main course with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy and cranberry sauce. The instructions for heating were simple and the meal was delicious. The portion sizes were large enough for some Boxing Day leftovers. Highly recommend these premade meals.
Love the "Orange/Cranberry/Pecan Loaf" but lately these loaves are burned and dry. Also, if these loaves haven't been put out on the counter yet and I need to ask for one the staff gives me a burned one. May I recommend that Sunterra give the best loaves first and sell burned loaves at a reduced price or better yet just don't sell burned loaves.
Amazing food, seriously the best place in Calgary for fast cheap and delicious desserts as well as well lunch or supper options. Super nice staff as well. !00% would recommend.
Disgusting… we had a Strawberry Sunterra Cake. Tasted like it was rotten. We sliced each layer of cake to only find mold on each strawberries and cream inside the cake… Please CHECK your cake before eating. All they can offer is your money back and apologize. They don’t even try to contact their team about quality control. The cakes come from another location only to be sold at this location. Wouldn’t you think that if the cakes came from another location they should atleast inspect their product before selling ? Terrible experience sorry for the 1 star Sunterra
One of my favourite markets. Fresh produce, bakery with delicious desserts and fresh bread, kitchen/restaurant/coffee shop. Never disappoints. Friendly and helpful staff.
So now the market is fantastic little market upscale. everything from its produce to meet fish to fresh baked bread is all fresh a very high quality. The staff is extremely professional and helpful and can help you find whatever is in the store it is a smaller store with limited selection but it does have a quite excellent assortment. Parking outside is both a simple and free.
