I was asked by my oncologist reception desk to go into the Summerland lab and do bloodwork as well as other tests. There I was given a 24 hour urinary test, but no information other than to avoid the first pee of the day. I luckily googled it and discovered that there are certain aspects like no coffee, no tomatoes, no specific other fruits and vegetables, etc., and more importantly , that storage of this specimen could only be held 24 hours in the fridge .Hence I was not able to do it on the Friday as requested and unable to drop it off on Saturday as the lab is closed. I think it is very imperative that Summerland Lab staff be directed to have a piece of paper available that indicates instructions and all the dietary dos and don’ts that you must do if you are going to complete this particular test.
Went for X-rays today - from Penticton, had to go to Summerland. When you think that it's only a 15 minute drive, that's really not a big deal! Staff were great on the phone. Reception staff and the radiologist were both super nice - very personable. The facility is very nice - very clean. How nice to have more than one facility. Hopefully this helps take the pressure off the hospital in Penticton. Prior to going, I removed all earrings, necklace, watch, rings before going - saved a lot of time, didn't have to change into a gown as I didn't wear a bra & made sure my clothing had no metal bits. in and out in less than 1/2 hr.
I have lived in three of the largest cities in Canada and had x-rays in all. Summerlands equipment and staff are gold standard. I am very impressed. And I am a retired RN who can be picky so thank you Summerland!
Having a life threatening allergy to all smells and choosing to work in health care where you have intimate contact with members of the public is not a good mix. ..njust out the shower & on way to work I was told to leave the Lab go home have another shower because my body deodorant was too strong. She made a big song and dance and was very humiliating.nWent straight to my doctor to complain who then informed me she had been treated the same and told to leave last time she was there. Advised to go to Peachland Lab, who were lovely. Maybe a less intimate job in the back labs would be more appropriate for this care aid.
