Opened in 2014, Strawberry Rock Gallery is owned and operated by people who have shown a snobbish attitude bordering on prejudice toward my artist son who is a newer local artist enjoying great success showing and selling his work from San Francisco de Young Museum of Art to many galleries and retail locations in Humboldt County. The comment "Not up to speed" coming from an owner shows lack of knowledge about or appreciation of abstract expressionist art. The comment "I'm sure he has other places he can show his art" borders on discrimination against folks who choose to embrace their disability as the art that it is ~~~ while being an equal and contributing member of our society. Reuben T. Mayes, Abstract Expressionist, age 24 has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, is non-verbal, uses a wheelchair and is a proud owner of his business: "Art In My Work Boots".
