I'm only sorry to have to give away something as nice as one star here, because zero stars would be most fitting. You will have to read an email or take my word for the reason: The State Attorney is there to defend any office of the State in a civil claim. That means that if, for example a New London Police officer harms you unlawfully, (as opposed to lawful harm, you see) and if you file a civil action, also called "suing," this is the office that will go to bat for New London, telling a jury, "He had to open fire on the suspect, you see he was.. looked at kinda funny, ladies and gentlemen." Their excuses may not always be that good, but that's the general role of this office, kind of like a built-in public defender for the State when we save up enough money to sue the State after incurring undue damages. Now where the 1/5 stars comes from is here: After getting the paperwork to sue the State for something that happened to me that I won't bore you with (you're welcome) a very intelligent African American Clerk heard my story. You, see, I stopped in his adjoining office when I got the civil action paperwork because running the problems past one more attorney of high power can't hurt. What I did not realize at all was that I was disclosing details of a forthcoming civil action to -you guessed it, the lawyers who would be fighting me! Truly awesome, because not only did this clever fellow make me feel my problem was important, he actually forwarded me up past his office and sent me to the State Attorney General in Hartford! Yes! Someone who will listen and maybe think of taking action! I disclosed my background, and the details of my case but heard nothing for weeks. I persisted and when I finally got an answer back, I realized the trick that they played: A grown man, me, did not know the exact function of this legal office and had all case details milked from him as a result. It's also called misrepresenting who you are, and what you do: Dear Mr. Brand, Your emails were forwarded to me for a response. The Office of the Attorney General is responsible for representing the State of Connecticut, its agencies and officials in civil matters. As such, we do not have jurisdiction over any criminal matters or prosecutions, nor do we have authority to oversee or investigate municipal police departments. Because your issues of concern appear to relate to criminal arrests and warrants, I encourage you to contact either the New London State's Attorney's Office or the Office of the Chief State's Attorney in Rocky Hill. Kind regards, Terrence M. O'Neill Assistant Attorney General Office of the Attorney General 110 Sherman Street Hartford, CT 06105 Thanks Terrence, pass my regards to Phillip. -jb
