St. Mary's University

Story

Have you ever wondered what makes life worthwhile? Why do we perform the actions we do? Why do we set certain goals for ourselves? Have you ever wished society looked a little different? Have you ever wondered what is the meaning of life? Guess what...you're a philosopher! You don't have to be a professional to engage the sort of questions with which philosophers preoccupy themselves. In fact, most of us do anyway. By engaging in our community you will discover new ways of viewing the world.

In this club we will get together as friends and colleagues to ask some questions about the nature of the "good life." We will look at practical examples of real-world issues and talk through them together. These will include everything from the issues we all deal with to the weird and wacky things occurring on the fringe of society. There will be some fascinating issues addressed and some great conversations. Please feel free to join our group.

Mission

Our mission is to learn more about the key issues confronting ourselves and our world, to think through these issues deeply, and to become engaged for positive change.

Overall the education was 5/5. During my time at STMU, my experience was good. Some professors were kind and helpful, but others were not as approachable. The administrative staff, especially the ladies who helped with class selection, were excellent. I was a student who attended before, during and after COVID. My professors were expectational. The school provided an excellent educational environment, with small class sizes being particularly beneficial. Additionally, I found the school to be very accommodating when I needed assistance during tests.nnHowever, I rate my overall experience as 2 out of 5 due to several concerns. While the small university size was appealing, I found the mandatory fees excessive, including those for gym and transit passes, and now proposed parking charges without adequate space. These changes signal a shift from the school's previous focus on support and community to a more financial orientation, which is disappointing in today's economy.nnIf STMU proceeds with this decision, it may compel students to park in surrounding neighborhoods, potentially tarnishing the university's overall reputation and upsetting local residents. While students may find parking alternatives, it could reflect poorly on the university's image and integrity.nnThese possible decisions further diminish from the positive aspects I once appreciated about the school. I hope that moving forward, all members of the university community, including administrative staff, are subject to the same fees to ensure fairness amid these decisions. I hope STMU listens to the public before limiting students further.
I am in my final year at Stmu and I have nothing negative to say. It’s a small school, with class sizes of roughly 30 people which is great! You’re not just a number in the system and the profs actually know your name. There are lots of activities, events, and so on to get involved in. Many of the instructors are passionate about what they do, and are wonderful at what they do. I will be completing my degree in 2024 and I am proud to have done my bachelor’s here.
I understand that there is a refund policy when after a certain period, a student can no longer get a refund for their tuition fees.nMy son had an emergency medical problem that won't allow him to attend school that caused him to withdraw from his classes shortly after the deadline for canceling registration. He was only in school just over a month from the time school started. Unfortunately, the school won't consider that reason so that at least we can get even a partial refund. That's over 4k lost.nIt would be nicer if they should have a little bit of understanding and consideration.
Beside is a beautiful, small, cozy University, is a historical place, it’s a wonderful place near the Fish Creek. It’s like go to study on the outdoors, with the comfort of Indoors. Nice and great people we meet today on an Open House Event. Thanks!
Don't waste your time at this school. Communication is very poor in terms of contacting support/advisors/head office/etc.nSchool fees continued into my last semester that was online in which I was paying for the gym, library and all the luxuries of studying on an actual campus.. Some profs are great, some are horrible as every school. I would recommend attending U of C or Mount Royal rather than stmu. I've known many people that attending those two schools and they didn't have nearly as many issues as I had at St. Mary's. I had many issues during my degree here and most of them remain unresolved. The counsellor was horrible. She didn't pay any attention to me in our meetings and you'd expect with a school that gives you so many issues, they could at least hire an adequate counsellor. She has a cute dog. But that's not helpful to just pay attention to your dog when someone's requesting mental help. She was very poor at her job, and when I graduated she did very little to help me with my pre-existing issues and trying to find help out of the school atmosphere. Oh. And I am still waiting to see what or how graduation will be and I've been waiting since may 2020. It's February 2021 now for your information, reading this. Terrible communication makes it hard to feel any
