Positive visit to doctor's office in back of building. Lack of parking is definitely an issue! Had to wait twenty minutes for a spot. Security guard was kind, helpful and understanding.
I broke my ankle and then waited 12 hours in the waiting room for an x ray. Multiple people who had waited less time than me went in before I had. Once I finally got in to see a doctor he just pushed my ankle until I was in pain and wouldn’t show me the x ray. They gave me an air boot that didn’t fit my foot because it was all they had left and told me it would work, then the nurse told me to search up a YouTube video on how to put it on because she couldn’t find English instructions. I was told I would be called at a later date to be referred and to be told when I could stop wearing the boot they never got into contact with me.
Wouldn't be surprised if this was the lowest rated Nova Scotian hospital based on the other reviews I read. Go to New Glasgow if you can. Was referred to a psychologist here and it was terrible. He asked me an unrelated inappropriate question that had nothing to do with why I was there. He was more fascinated by me than concerned. Told me I only have anxiety and seemed happy that it would be our only appointment.
I had a really good experience here. This was my first time coming to emergency at St.Martha's and I was worried because of the reviews. When I first came in the attendant at the door jumped up and offered to get me a wheelchair as I was having troubles walking. When I got to emergency the triage nurse was amazing, easy to talk to, listened to me and was very helpful and nice. It was a bit of a wait, but that is understandable as there were a few others in the waiting room. When I got into a room I waited roughly 2 hours Dr.Mark saw me quickly. He listened to my issues and had an awesome bedside manner! I was concerned but he made my painful situation fun, which put me at ease and made me feel better. He was very helpful, didn't mind answering all my questions, he gave me advice and explained everything. I want to thank everyone there for helping me, making me feel comfortable and being so kind.
I had to call an ambulance for my 92 year old mother from a long term care home 45 minutes away from the hospital. She was very sick with what seemed like pneumonia. This process started around 5:00 p.m.nnWhen she was ex-rayed and cleaned, the doctor examined her and told me she had pneumonia. She prescribed antibiotics and told me that they will send her back that same night!?nnI challenged her on that point and with her defiant answer, told me they could do for her at the senior's home what they could do for her at the hospital. She seemed quite devoid of emotion or empathy.nnAs it turned out, she couldn't find an ambulance and my mother ended up staying the night.nnThe clincher is, apparently she has diagnosed her condition incorrectly!? My mother's regular doctor was away but has since diagnosed her her with something completely different. Still lung related but not pneumonia?!nnFor sure this can happen but was her attention and heart in her care? It wasn't that busy. I would think that sending a 92 year old woman who is very sick, unable to communicate clearly, would be someone you would want to monitor for the night. Forget about the angst and emotion this caused for my family but making the decision to transport her for that distance, in her condition, was very difficult.nnWhy is this happening? Emergency departments in small communities have to close on weekends because of staff shortages. There are people out there who can't afford the ambulance costs.nnThe nurses were fantastic. I would say, this doctor needs to rexamine why she is a doctor.
