What a great little place. I had already eaten, but friends that I was with raved about the traditional Irish food they were eating. They were going on and on about how authentic it was. I was there on a Friday night to see some live music and enjoyed a very unique and delicious Old Fashioned. They have a wooden lid that they place on top of the glass after they’ve made the drink. They add wood chips, light them on fire and smoke fills the glass to add a smokiness to the alcohol. It was delicious….and a pretty fun experience, too. There’s not a ton of parking, but it’s easier to find a spot if you enter at the driveway just under the restaurants street sign, as the slanted spots face south.
Saturday night. Kids dropped at the skate rink. Irish Pub time. Read reviews so this place sounded great. First time visit. Yep, they crushed it. Wasn’t too crowded. Live music bonus. 1 bartender….was worried. But she killed it. Smoked Old fashions, vodka soda and lime plus an aplletini. We ordered a Rueben and chips and chicken goujon. Rueben was amazing. Fries were awesome. Chicken and dipping sauce were great. Didn’t take long for drinks or food. Overall great experience!
Amazing Irish Pub. Especially the fries, or more properly, the chips. Normally, most restaurants make their fries with Yukon Golds or other waxy skinned potatoes, which is okay. But these guy's? They've perfected making chips from Russet potatoes which is: 1. An Achievement. 2. Super Tasty. That said, I'd highly recommend the Reuben Burger and the Curry Chips.
Our first visit to this local Irish pub/restaurant. I very much enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie and a cream ale. It was a very cold for our region day with lots of ice on the roads, so during our early dinner there were just three other patrons, who were seated at the bar. Result was the place was cold inside. I look forward to going back on a warmer day when more folk will be there.
We thought the food was ok. I am still giving it 4 stars because there was nothing wrong with the quality, and they served the Guinness properly, which is important. We just found the food to be a bit bland for our tastes, but some people may prefer that. I think it's within the realm of traditional Irish food, which isn't always the most flavorful and that's ok. The romaine, bacon & bleu salad was a whole head of romaine grilled and was pretty tasty. The shepherd's pie had superbly creamy topping, but filling lacked flavor. Sausage roll was really just a whole lot of sausage in pastry. The pastry was flaky and good but overall it was not my favorite. The gravy that came with it was kind of a homogenous gloop, and again lacked flavor. I feel that the quality was still 4 star worthy and service was great, but it just didn't match our tastes.
Not awful, not outstanding. Arrived on a Saturday evening around 7 pm. Took a very long time to get beers. There was live music that was nothing but volume. Afterwards, singer guy walked around talking to people without his mask on in the pandemic era. Sausage roll was quite good. My wife's shepherd's pie arrived as Guinness stew. We think the waitress couldn't hear us well over the music and didn't repeat the order back to us; this is likely to be true because my wife and I could barely hold a conversation. However, the Guiness stew was quite tasty. My fish and chips were quite soggy: the breading fell off the fish, and because it was on top of the chips, chips were soggy. Nothing really to draw us back in the future.
So much fun on St Pat's day! Great music, food, beer, customers! Will def be backFood: 5/5
Bartender Connor was very professional and attentive. I had the Chicken Goujon Sandwich and she had the Reuben Sandwich. I just didn’t know I had to go to an Irish - St. James Gate Restaurant and Bar for by far the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Chef Mac evidently is responsible for the seemingly perfectly cooked meat in both sandwiches. It was not dry or overly wet, to compensate for cooking errors. I have know idea how Chef Mac manages to combine the toasted buttered bun, with the Irish cheddar and crispy chicken as fresh and well as he did. The best part of eating is when a restaurant provides a plate that you are genuinely satisfied with halfway through the meal. Meaning, the food is sooo gratifying, that eating the second half of the plate is just indulging. Yes, I do recommend this place. I wish this place the best! Ohh, nearly forgot I had to find at least one negative. If it is one, it would be a little more fries. Yes I know that’s petty, but I try to find at least one negative. Awesome place!!!
Very good food. Drinks wete good. Service was very nice, but they were severely understaffed. Live music was better than expected, too. Parking: Easy Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Just went here for saint patricks day. Don’t go! I was super excited to go there because the reviews looked good. But the service was terrible and took 20 min to order food and it wasn’t even busy. The beer was flat and when the food came it was just boiled potatoes cabbage and a little corned beef. No butter no salt in a to go container. Seriously don’t go
