The oldest cemetery and crematorium in Toronto. History at every corner as you walk through this cemetery. A huge variety of different types of monuments reside here. Right in the heart of the city. Dates back to 1844. Right off of Parliament Street. A great place to visit if you are a history buff photographer, or just want to wander in a quiet serene area.
a great place for meditative strolls just steps away from super busy streets of Toronto not to mention DVP. Lots of history - you will recognise some names like Jarvis family mausoleum. Beautiful tombstones that tell us stories of past Toronto inhabitants. There is a gorgeous chapel right by the main entrance. Despite signs asking dog owners to use leashes, many people consider this place to be a doggie park - once I saw a sizeable husky running around, and many smaller pooches enjoying some leash free walks....It would be nice to see more trees planted there, and some of the older tombstones being restored. There are paved paths and many smaller ones just for walking. I never saw this place crowded, it is less popular than nearby Toronto Necropolis located 10-15 minutes walk away.
A beautiful place for a walk in the city. The fall colours are especially nice there. Such nice big trees and lots of paths.
One of the most beautiful little chapels in Toronto. Built in 1860 is worth a visit. Unfortunately, it was closed on a Sunday, but it was still worth walking around
St. James Cemetery and Crematorium is part of The Cathedral Church of St. James and is the oldest operating cemetery in Toronto having opened in 1844. The cemetery is home to a beautiful church-like chapel that is a perfect location for funerals and memorial services. The chapel provides seating for 200 people but isn’t so big that a smaller service can’t be held very comfortably. This Anglican cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Toronto and is still in operation. Beautiful areas and very well kept up. The age of burial areas will set you back and make you think. There's thousands of people resting in this cemetery and not at all possible to visit each one in a day. Lovely to walk around and read, study the grave stones and especially some of the very tall and large stones. So today January 25.2021, 177 years later I walked and went around two times trying to take in all the names and dates. Beautiful January day to visit and walk amongst past Toronto area members.
So far it’s the most beautiful cemetery I have seen in downtown Toronto !! Has a beautiful church at the Center and a long path way to talk a stroll around even though it’s a cemetery it feels pretty to be around it The summer makes it look so shiny and bright and makes you feel to view the church and be mesmerized to its beauty
Opened in 1844, this Anglican cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Toronto and is still in operation. It is the burial place for many eminent Toronto residents. Walking through the cemetery is like walking through Toronto's history.
A cemetery full of historical information, tins of beautiful monuments, a. Beautiful walk in a real neat part of Toronto cabbage town
This cemetery is so beautiful. So many notable well respected families are buried here. Headstones are beautiful- tons of area to cover perfect for a daily walk . Lots of Trees for shade. would be perfect to have a picnic here. I wish that there was a way to restore some of the old headstones, as some have fallen over or are in disrepair. I also wish that there were more garbage cans placed around the facility. There is tons of litter especially around the fence line
This is such a beautiful place to soak in nature, history, peace, and time. You can see how many people have come here from so many different places around the world to build this city. So many different styles of gravestone, so many different names from other languages. So many people buried here that certain histories have dubbed famous and important. There may even be a sacred tree or two. Do respect this space if you come, and the people who rest in it.
