St Francis De Sales Church

Story

St. Francis de Sales Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Ajax, Ontario. The original church was erected in 1871, but was closed in 1999 due to an overflow of parishioners. A new building was opened on 30 July 2006.Pre-World War IPrior to the building of a church to service the Catholic community of Pickering, parishioners journeyed to either St. Paul's in Toronto or to St. Gregory's in Oshawa. In 1847, the first church was erected in Pickering near Highway 2 (now Durham Highway 2/Kingston Road). It was called St. Wilfrid's, and relied on visiting priests. The first resident priest of the area was Fr. Peter D. Laurent, who served from 1860-61. By 1870, the tiny Pickering church of St. Wilfrid's became too small for the burgeoning Catholic population, and so, under the guidance of Fr. Hayden, the fifth pastor, the parish banded together to build a new church, named St. Francis de Sales. It was completed in 1871.

We moved from York Region to Ajax, our sweetest experienced in the church was totally amazing and we love coming back every Sunday. We attended mass @ 10:15 and the priest was amazing, the homily is so touchy and deep and with his sense of humour it was all great experienced. Thanking God for everything. God Bless all!
Don't let the priest Joe Singh marry you. He is very rude and unprofessional. He does not make any accommodations and creates unnecessary problems. For example one of our camera man was moving to get a better shot. Joe stopped the ceremony abruptly. He proceeded to stare at the cameraman and told him to stop moving in the middle of our vows.
The priests we have currently -- Fr. Joseph and Fr. Steven are solid in the teaching of the Catholic - universal - faith. We certainly treasure our priests as well as our deacon Alban. I read another review about the service being 'boring' : but that is just silly. We go to worship Jesus, not to be entertained! The choir at the 8:30am Sunday Mass is terrific.
Am Emmanuel from Uganda, I really love my Catholic and st.francis in particular and I would like to be there again if I get members support,am agood choir varcolist Amme
I attended a funeral yesterday at St. Francis De Sales Catholic church in Ajax. The service was boring and non personal. The priest was hard to hear due to a poor sound system. He also lacked empathy and compassion. Did he even know who the deceased was or was he just following a standard funeral service? After an hour and a half of boredom we were told that we were to go outside where the family would like to meet with us.? Apparently the family was not allowed to give a eulogy in the church!? What kind of nonsense is this????? This lovely, kind and generous soul was a member of this church most of her life and this is how her tribute was being honored! So there we all stood baking in the hot sun trying to hear the family tell us about her life's journey. An unbelievable insult to a faithful and long standing member of the congregation. Another reason to lose faith and leave the Catholic church!!! Shame on you, so called "Servants of God!"
Church service schedule caterers to just about everyone interested in prayer. Children are encouraged to attend and participate in the choir. Many options to volunteer and activities are abundant.
On the website and notice board say the church open for private prayer until 3pm but they closed early 12pm … I don’t know why they doing like this an every Wednesday I come to this church for mother merry perpetual and I got disappointed then I went back to home … may be the parish shouldn’t know what they doing while who ever being in the office .. the in Ajax there are other church is open 7days a week until 9pm but there no my mother perpetual… otherwise I love this place and system has to be changed
Beautiful church and inspiring homilies. For 11 years it was my place for prayers and where my faith grew. We were blessed with great priests and father Joseph and father David just confirmed that.
Been visiting this church for a couple of years, it has a lovely service. The choir is very nice and the church looks like the United Nations. All sorts of people coming together to worship in unity. Too crowded though. Parking lot is too small, many people line the roadway, there is no parking there because it is a soft sloping shoulder but there isn't enough room for evetuone in the church lot. Sometimes it is standing room only inside the church. Time to build a cathedral.
The church is well maintained, spacious and beautiful. Choir is great pre covid era. My only concern really is two of the priests. One priest I saw speeding on his way home going 70km in a 40km zone and parked his car in his driveway. I mean come on have some regard in your neighbourhood. I witnessed this with my own eyes as it caught my attention and was curious who would speed in this neighbourhood. Also, in my opinion a they lack sympathy. They seem to feel like they are superior to everyone, oftentimes they sound condescending. But what can we do? Nothing really but pray for them that hopefully they will have more patience and understanding to patrons they deal with. Have some more compassion, after all, isn't that what church teaches us?.Just try to set a good example not just by words or by being holy but being nicer to people you come across with.
