Although the ship was not open, it's great to have a preserved steamship, and I like how accessible it is in terms of being able to walk around the ship so close to it, to marvel at it, take photos, and read the contents of the description boards around the ship, even at night in the middle of winter. It was also beautifully lit up! The only thing was many of the boards around the ship were dark and can't be read unless I turn my flashlights on -- it would be a lot nicer if there were illuminating lights!
Looks like a great experience, but the ship was closed for repairs. There isn't a completion date at this time. There was an outside tour available and two movies. The staff was great! They answered questions and offered information about the ship. 3 stars simply because of the closure.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Nice movie detailing the history of the stern wheelers on the Yukon. The guided tour of the ship was disappointing because restoration work prevented us from going inside. That was supposed to be done in May. None-the-less, our guide was excellent and it was well worth stopping at the park.
Very cool boat, but in reconstruction for now. At same time the adjacent centre provides a good amount of information about not only the boat but also the river and the activities related to them. It has a small gift shop and washrooms on premise. Outside working hours the washrooms are closed, but one could still read through the history as the material is located outside.
A great sightseeing of beautiful city feature. A piece of history. Came here last two years and captured the beautiful moments of the northern lights above the ship.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great place to walk around and enjoy the sun. Love it is connected to the trail.
Very nice old historical vessel. Very good prepared and restored. We learned a lot on how shipping of freight was conducted in former decades. You can explore the ship on your own, take a self guided tour with an info flyer booklet 2$, or the guided tour aproxm. 6$. Ask and register in the visitor Centre in front of the cruiser. We met also the resident fox family. Very nice 3h trip in whitehorse.
Ship was Closed unfortunately. Although it was a Marvel to stand next to such a impressive piece of Yukons history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very cool national history museum but it did seem a little short. We did the paid guided tour and it was worth all 6 bucks a person! The lady that gave our tour shared so many insights into the world of gold rush Yukon! It was truly amazing. I just wish we where able to see more of the vessel!
A icon of history in Whitehorse. Sometimes used for events such as the Yukon Culinary Festival Costumes and Canapes event. You can see the history in the summer when it is open to the public. SS Klondike was the name of two sternwheelers, the second now a national historic site located in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. They ran freight between Whitehorse and Dawson City along the Yukon River, the first from 1929-1936 and the second, an almost exact replica of the first, from 1937-1950.
