What a cute hidden gem at Baldwin! Went here with friends for a get together and had such a great time. Every day of the week has a special signature dish which is usually good in value and tasty! For a party of 4, half a Peking duck should be fine—considering you have other dishes as well. I will say in terms of taste a bit on the drier end and would have liked to separate the skin and fat pieces. The dishes were all good too, I did enjoy the fried noodles! Also, the owners are so nice that they even gave us free egg tarts before we left.
I had dinner at Soya on a rainy day and it was a really good decision! I had the signature Peking Duck Half with the pancake and all of its toppings! It was so rich and delicious, perfect for two people with some to take home. Also got the minced meat green beans and general tao chicken, which were also affordable and good! The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated with these painted ducks on the ceiling and on the bar. It's definitely worth checking out the inside!
easy spot to get Peking duck! it's quite hard to get Peking duck in a small portion because it's usually served in family banquets. the duck was alright but the true star were the egg tarts. they were not super sweet and a wonderful creamy texture! the staff are also friendly and even gave us a special something, can't say what though
Nicely decorated Chinese restaurant in Baldwin Village nice and quite neighborhood near Chinatown. All items I tried were ok, not as remaking as other spots. Price is on a higher end, especially for pekking duck. The flour wrap was made freshly in house, and the duck was roasted nicely juicy inside crispy outside. Good for one time try, not sure if I will come back. Service was A+++. Both host and server were friendly and attentive, hence I gave this place 4 stars overall.
Took the gamble as anyone would seeing how few reviews this spot had but so glad we did. Affordable prices even for the Peking duck as they were pretty generous on the portions too plus it tasted amazing even for takeout. The packaging was thought out and although not restaurant fresh, they managed to preserve most of the heat and still be presentable. We got a few sides as well and highly recommend the egg tart for dessert - melt in your mouth delicious! The owner/server was very nice, as we waited for the food, he brought us water and was helpful with clarifying questions we had. Definitely going back for a full duck soon!
This is hands down the best North Eastern Chinese restaurant in Toronto. I’m from Liaoning and Soya Kitchen reminds me of authentic home cooked food! PROS: Clean, modern, spacious, solid menu, great location. Also has a front patio and serves alcohol! I can’t stress how clean/modern this place is compared to the other hole-in-the-wall Northeastern Chinese restaurants in Toronto! MENU: Highly recommend Peking duck and egg tarts I’d argue these are the best egg tarts I’ve ever had… and I’m Yelp Elite x6 years. Also tried the green beans, cumin lamb, mandarin 3 vegetables, fried rice, and garlic eggplants. My mom LOVES the and garlic eggplants here. 10/10 recommend!!
Was here a couple weeks back and the food and service was fantastic. Very delicious and clean tastingnot greasy food, even on items that are fried! We got the weekday lunch set with the braised tofu and veggie option that came with spring rolls, salad, rice and an egg tart, plus their crispy pork loin in ginger sauce. We enjoyed all of it and thought the egg tartserved hot/fresh was one of the best in the city!
Top service! We had a pretty big group and they accommodated us really well. We ordered their Peking duck set which isn’t the most traditional but is very solid for what you can find outside of Asia. Highly recommend trying the crushed garlic & cucumber app. We also ordered the spicy mapo tofu, crispy pork loin in ginger sauce, black pepper beef sizzling plate, and chinese broccoli in mild sauce. Only thing that wasn’t 5/5 was the beef which was 3/5. Their drinks were fun and tasted great too! Ended the meal with egg tarts which were amazingly soft, fluffy and hot. Would revisit!
So we were very excited to try the Peking duck set because it looked so amazing and my wife and I both love duck, especially Peking duck that comes with the thin crepe instead of the thick bun. However, if you prefer the thick bun version, they offer that as well. Unfortunately, the duck was a disappointment due to how incredibly lean our duck was; the duck barely had any fats to it, which despite having hoisin sauce to accompany it, it was still incredibly dry and hard to swallow, literally :/ The Siu mai was interesting but it was very bland and flavorless. Definitely skip this unless you want to fill yourself up with some gluttonous rice. If they added some small bits of Chinese sausage or mini dried shrimp, it would definitely enhance the flavor! The best thing that we had in this whole meal, was the complimentary egg tart that was offered to us for making our reservation through Yelp. It was flakey, buttery, and creamy! Definitely one of the best egg tarts I ever had! This by itself is worth 5 stars but unfortunately the rest of our experience isn't :/ The staff were incredibly friendly, and our waitress was able to speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Very great staff! Thank you for reading and good luck! :
Had a great experience at Soya last week. Food was tasty and service was great. We had a small incident with one dish and they quickly replaced it plus gave us a free dessert. Highly recommend the egg tarts!
