We had an incredibly memorable meal at our first visit to this highly anticipated restaurant! The decor is lively, colourful and eclectic. The staff are all incredibly warm and friendly and generous with their time to engage in conversation with us about the food and country. All of the dishes were very bold and intense with their flavours and such a departure from the typical southwestern Thai cuisine that we are normally accustomed to. This northeastern cuisine awakens your taste buds with every bite! One of the highlights of the meal was the pork jowl which had great acidity, herbaceousness and silky texture of the meat juxtaposed against the crunchy crushed peanuts. Other highlights of our meal included the deep fried frogs legs, salted crab papaya salad and of course the ubiquitous mango sticky rice which was beautifully balanced with the salt and very fragrant toasted sesame. Definitely a reference standard quality dessert. For sure will be looking to go back and sample more dishes! One of our favorite meals of the year!
Very traditional and authentic Thai food restaurant. I guess it is the Northern Thai-style flavour. Can get busy at mealtime, recommend getting a reservation to skip the line. There is a street Green P nearby which is very convenient. The restaurateur has an open kitchen, you can see your the progress of making dishes. The food is tasty, recommended to choose mild if you can’t eat spicy because they are real fire.
Unique Thai experience! The dishes are perfect to share between 2 people. Good amount of spice level! The pumpkin dill zucchini soup was very interesting in its flavour. I could taste the dill and lemongrass and it was not like any soup I've had before!Food: 5/5
We loved the vibe and the decor in the place. Felt like we were transported to a place in Thailand. The food was sooo flavourful! My favourite was the beef flat noodles! The Thai tea was next level too. Highly recommend it! Service was slow and they didn’t check in once. They also forgot to give us menus for like 15 minutes. Food was super worth it! The papaya salad was very tasty!
We had the most amazing time at Som Tum Jinda. The food was utterly delicious. The highlight was the Som Tum Tod salad. I have had many papaya salads but the flavour and textural contrast was superior. The vinaigrette was so balanced - sweet, salty, spicy and sour. The contrast between the fresh and fried papaya was an absolute treat. The Pad See Eew was also delicious. The char achieved from quick heat shone as a deep, smokey flavour. My only criticism was that it was slightly oily. The restaurant is tucked in a basement unit - walls plastered with fun art. My only qualm would be service - sometimes slow and our dishes were brought out at different times making it hard to eat in harmony as a group.
This place was recommended to me by many friends who know I love Thai cuisine. We came a little later 9pm as we knew it was busier on Saturday. It was still busy but we got a table shortly after we were greeted. Very good service and wonderul staff. All the dishes impressed us as we have tried many Thai places. Definitely must try the Pork ribs soup, papaya salad with salt crab, Pad See Ew with beef, pork jowls and Thai Iced Tea!
Incredible authentic Northern Thai offered in a relaxed low key setting. If you're looking for pad Thai and curry this ain't the spot; but if real authentic Northern Thai dishes are your jam then look no further. Food was prepared well, ingredients fresh, and everything we tried was delicious, with the stand outs being the fried papaya salad, pork jowel, and garlic chicken with fried egg on rice. Service was fast and friendly and menu is reasonably priced. Awesome spot for a date, quick lunch, or dinner and drinks with friends!
My discovery of authentic Thai restaurants in Toronto continued with a visit to Som Tum Jinda, one of Toronto's newest Thai restaurants, offering Som Tum style dishes by Chef Jinda. Their location in Thailand is Michelin rated. This was going to be good! My expectations were rewarded with some delicious dishes that were mostly unfamiliar to me, due to the region of Thailand they originated from. They were all deliciously good, with some spicy heat! Unfortunately, I don't know the names of all the dishes but they included Mango Salad, Grilled Pork Jowl, Chicken Wings, spicy sausage, corn salad, soups, and much more. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Trust me on that! The restaurant, located just below street level, is fairly small but very attractive, with rustic decor. The kitchen is an open concept, where you can see all the magic happening. It was an impressive display of skills from the chefs!
Stands out in a city with great Thai food! Walked in on a Friday and got a table without reservations around 6:30pm. Service is friendly and fast. Food was amazing! The papaya salad was spicy and refreshing. Grilled chicken was soft and tender. Glass noodles had lots of flavour. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!
Delicious food in a beautiful little space. The wall murals are amazing and you would never expect such amazing food from the street sign. It’s hidden from view, you have to walk downstairs to enter but definitely worth a try. It was super easy to book a table online, though there also wasn’t a wait when we arrived on Saturday at 5pm. The fried papaya salad Som Tum Tod Vegan was to die for, I recommend 2 chillies if you like spice but not too much. The Panang curry is a classic, can’t go wrong and I really enjoyed the glass noodle dish too. All for such a reasonable price! Will be returning here real soon.
