The fundamentals executed well, the French fries we perfect, generous amount of squeaky cheese curds authentic, ample sauce and served piping hot. Smokes does it well. The service was great, quick and genuine! Will definitely return.Food: 5/5
This place is great for a heavy meal, after going around the downtown core for business, shopping and lots of bars around. Large servings and won't disappoint a poutine lover. A place to eat when you're from out of town as well.
The poutine is great, we also had boneless wings and it's basically chicken nuggets, it was not dry so not bad at all. The staff was friendly, they had décor up for St Patrick's day and playing some Irish music, which was a nice touch. The tables are absolutely horrible, wobbly and noisy so rather get your food as a takeout. They didn't try to upsell with a pop which was interesting. They deliver via Skip the dishes.
Overcooked fries made it hard for a plastic fork to penetrate them most of the time. Red peppers were slimy and cold and the cheese was nowhere near melting point. There were not nearly enough toppings and I was left with a pile of overpriced crispy fry daggers. If the food was cheaper, maybe this would be justified but there was so much hype around this place and I am severely disappointed. Probably won't go again. If you are thinking of going here, get gravy on it because most of the flavour options are extremely dry and don't always have a sauce. EDIT: Thanks for letting me know I can ask the staff to redo my order but I don't think I will considering the customer service I got when ordering it the first time. I was communicated with via grunts and five or less actual words. Not only do I love eating food, but I am an adult who has owned bell peppers before as they are a common grocery store item. I know their moisture content, which is why I did not use that term to describe their SLIMY nature. I know how the food is prepared, and I am insulted that the assumption was made that my experience was due to my own uneducated misconception and not the potential bacteria that produced the slimy texture of my food.
First time in - surprisingly good food. The MEAL size order was plenty of food to fill up on and one of the few poutines I've had where there is gravy and cheese all throughout the dish instead of just a little sprinkled on top.
The service was good, the person at the counter was very friendly. A great place to grab something to eat late into the night especially given the location. Fairly priced and good quality! Good standard maintained by the poutinerie chain! The store was very well maintained and neat as well!
We were at Rock the River that had ZERO SELECTION for food, we went for a walk and came across Smokes! The place was PACKED and Conner behind the counter was rocking it with a smile, and humor. Great food and amazing service!
I remember going to smokes getting literal cravings, then they changed the triple pork from sausage to pepperoni. The beef started to have the same texture as taco bell... Today for just shy of $16 I got a meal that not only didn't satisfy my hunger. With its small portion size, but didn't satisfy a craving. Semi soggy fries, a dollop of cheese sauce compared to the ocean they used to serve that made the other toppings almost disappear, it all created a melancholy reaction to something I used to love. I can honestly say I'd rather a Costco poutine, with frozen Cavendish fries but at least a healthy portion of curds and delicious gravy that pops with each bite. Instead the only flavour left after this meal was regret.
I used to like eating poutine from here, but the last three times I ordered from here the fries and gravy tasted pretty meh, and the last two orders I had I ended up getting food poisoning from it. I order the same thing every time and I notice that the amount of cheese curds and gravy they put in the poutine is quite inconsistent. One time I got a lot of cheese curds, and one time I barely got any even though I ordered extra curds both times Don't think will be ordering from here for a while.
Staff was very friendly and the traditional small poutine that I tried was pretty good for the most part. The restaurant seating area was full of garbage and the garbage receptacle was overflowing. After a vigorous night out on the town Smokes will fill your French fry craving.
