Join us in our newly restored school house, a place for gifts, ideas, and space. We have new stoneware and woodfired pots intended for daily use.
The Dunn County Pottery was established by John Thomas in 1973. His pottery is functional, traditional in form, and inspired by an apprenticeship in central Japan. We have a nice selection of new pottery for daily use—cups, mugs, storage jars, tableware, vases, and cooking ware. The forms are influenced by nature: the woods, gardens, fields, animals, and the human form. Gift shop items include local and fair trade gifts, and art and crafts by local artisans.
The octagonal 19th century schoolhouse houses a gallery and meeting space. Simply Dunn hosts seasonal open houses welcoming the community to visit and enjoy newly wood-fired pottery. The schoolhouse gallery is available to rent for meetings, occasions, and special events. Classes and meetings are held including Yoga, Tai Chi, and Zen meditation. Simply Dunn overlooks the Red Cedar River valley in the village of Downsville, Wisconsin.
Visitors are always welcome, the pottery is open every day of the year.
