Tastes like a home-cooked meal — warm, authentic, flavourful, and the friendliest owner. We ordered a large jerk chicken, and like the reviews before us promised, it was tender and fell off the bone. Curry chicken and stewed pork was also delicious, but the latter was not as tender. Only the frozen vegetables were underwhelming so I would opt for the coleslaw side. Don’t leave without trying the beef patty! It’s the best we’ve ever had. Our party of 4 spent around $60 after tax and tip, which is reasonable in the Niagara touristy region.
Went there at a non peak time so there was no line at all. We ordered the oxtail and curry goat meals large. You can see that they have really good portion and flavorful food nailed. Love this place in town. The server was not very enthusiastic at 4 pm but I understand.
What a diamond in the rough! Just when Ive committed to eating mediocre food for an exorbitant cost in the niagra falls area we stumbled across this cute mom and pop restaurant <10 mins walk away from my hotel in the bustling clifton hill. We ordered the red snapper, oxtail stew, and goat stew witth rice& beans and a side of veggies. While the veggies could be a lot better not just minced cabbage and carrots, the entrees were delicious and well spiced. The oxtail stew and goat were bursting with umami, tender and juicy. We were expecting the red snapper to be deep fried to a crisp rather than panfried? but regardless the taste factor was on point. Dont forget to ask for the habanero spicy sauce. It is not for the faint of heart but if you are a chili its the icing on the cake! if you love good food without the frills this is your go to dining spot!
Food was delicious! I had the veggie meal with rice and beans and a side of plantain. Shooks was very hospitable and welcoming, easy to talk to. Comfortable atmosphere. I would recommend anyone travelling in the Niagara Falls area to go and grab their food here.
We were walking down the street and peeped in at the restaurant and continued our way. Shooks saw us and came out and invited us in. We ordered 3 meals. All meals were delicious! The servings/portions were enough and the price just right! We will visit again whenever we are in Niagara.
Shooks A Taste of Jamaica was great. To start off, the customer experience was pretty good even though the electricity was down for a period of time, we decided to come back because we liked the atmosphere and the service. Beautiful color interior, very vibrant. Food was good. Thanks to Lisa!
It is like a plate of home cooking. Jeff was friendly and genuine. I had the Curry chicken and ordered a slice of Rum cake and a Mild Beef Patty to go. This was the best meal we had during our visit to Niagara. I couldn't believe my travel buddy didn't complain about anything. She ate every bite! This is real food folks, not fast food...so pack a little patience, it's worth the wait. The curry chicken was so tender OMG I loved every bite. The curry has a perfect balance of flavor, not overpowering. The rice and peas were perfectly cooked. We may return early tomorrow to get our Jerk! Sending Belizean love to the chef. Vegetarian options: Veggie Patty and plates
The service was amazing. We talked with Jeff the Chef and he was truly nice. We got cowfoot, oxtail, and fry chicken. We all got size small for our food. Two of us opt out for the veggies. We ordered two small chicken foot soup but we finished it before taking pics and the soup was good. We went after 9 and they close at 10 and they still had things that were on the menu. The cowfoot was spicy so keep that in mind if you like or don't like spicy food. I would most definitely recommend them and visit next time I'm in the area.
Arrived at the restaurant around 6:30pm and they ran out of many items from the menu already. However, from what they still have, we ordered curry goat and fried chicken, both of which were very tasty! Goat was especially juicy and tender.
I happened across this hidden gem while walking from my Hotel to Clifton Hill. The smell of the food and the music enticed me to go in and I was not disappointed. I had the Jerk Chicken and it was AMAZING.even though the spice level made my eyes water, that was on me, the dish was delicious, I said it was so good it brought tears to my eyes Jeff and his staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. What a great little place. It you are in the area you need to try the food. I wish I had a chance to try something else from the menu but I ran out of time and had to return to Winnipeg.
