The biggest draw to this diner is their interior decor. The exterior doesn’t look like much and honestly, we thought about finding another place to eat when we pulled up to the parking lot. But the interior decoration had a lot of character. They have many license plates hanging from the ceiling, donated by visitors over the years. An impressive collection that covers all 50 states and a couple of countries. They also have various currencies and a train that periodically goes through the top of the walls. They definitely have some of the most interesting decor of any diners I’ve been to. The food itself didn’t have anything special. Most items were cooked well but the ingredients were pretty basic with very minimal spice. We were surprised that we ended up paying more here than at black bear diner given that we got way more food there and the food was better there as well. Value for the money didn’t quite seem to be there which is why it’s getting a lower rating for me. The service and staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would come back for the decor and service but maybe not the food.
Cool ambience with a train that goes around the restaurant, rolling chairs to eat in, and license plates hung above you. The food was fine, but not great. We got the breakfast burrito and the country bowl. The breakfast burrito had what tasted like liquid eggs with almost no flavor, and the ingredients inside other than the sausage, were warm but raw.
We went to this place for brunch before climbing Mt. Storm King. Classic American breakfast with good options. I tried the scrambled eggs with hash brown and toast. We ordered the waffle at the same time so it became soggy by the time we ate. Also, it had strawberry compote and not fresh strawberries which was rather disappointing.
I'm not one to write a review that is negative, but I do want to say that the food was honestly pretty bland. The steak appeared to not be seasoned and was just a piece of meat with no flavor. The french toast and eggs also did not have much flavor. The staff was friendly and was prompt topping off our drinks, but they never once asked us how our meal was. Again, I don't want to be a negative Nelly but looking at the positive reviews it may have been an off day.
Excellent food. Picture included to show the perfect medium rare cook on their steak. The steak was really fresh, cut through like butter and tasted amazing. Cute little cafe!
A decent breakfast/brunch spot in Port Angeles that you can visit to get a bite before you begin your day at ONP. I liked the distinctive decor of the place, all the license plates hung all over the roof, and toy trains running.Recommended dishesFrench Toast and Hashbrowns
Perfect breakfast experience. We had the veggies with hashbrowns -- yummy. Also a waffle. Love this place and the little train they turned on for the youngsters. We'll be back to count the license plates. Service was impeccable. Vegetarian options: Open to custom requests. Add veggies to anything. Kid-friendliness: Train runs around the dining room and delights the younger set & some of us older ones too. Wheelchair accessibility: Handicap parking, wide front door over flat entry area, very helpful & considerate staff, easy to move chairs around/out the way. Wheelchair may fit into bathrooms but they're small.
Great selection great service, the cook is awesome. There are so many things to look at in Shirley's you never get bored. I've been there many times and find something new to look at each time. There is nothing bad to say about this place except you could use more parking. I usually park across the street. It's always busy but you never lack of service or wait to long for your meal. Thanks Shirley's for all the wonderful visits
Really good gem we found with Shirley's after visiting Hurricane Ridge. Awesome diner food, potato salad was probably best I've had in a long, long time. Super fun atmosphere, nice staff, home made goodness.... Make it a stop for lunch. Worth it.
I love going for breakfast and the atmosphere is so nostalgic and homey. The staff are always so friendly and ready to take your order and even chat with you and get to know you. I feel like anyone can just fit right in and get a delicious wholesome hot cooked meal and leave feeling great afterwards. It's like visiting family and the art and the trains are my favorite.
