People said it’s the best ramen restaurant in Calgary. But I can say that it’s not comparable with those ramen shops in Japan.nnNoodles: 9/10 good texture, for all sizes of noodlesnSoup: 6/10 the original pork soup is good but it tastes like MSGnPork Cha Siu: 3/10 the meat has no fat and is not tender at allnDeep fried chicken: 8/10 quite good actuallynnLong line. And mapo tofu/ spicy peanut dan dan soup are definitely Chinese cuisine. Not Japanese…
Very busy over lunch hour, but we were seated quickly and within minutes had our food served. It was hot and delicious. I ordered the vegetarian goma ramen the flavours were amazing. Not as spicy as we were “sold” on…definitely add a side of the garlic chilli oil - that was fantastic but still not terribly spicy. Service was the bomb, quick chill and cheerful. Portions were huge. Pricing was average for quality dishes. Pictured was the veg ramen, taco appy tortillas were a bit tough and chicken appy. I didn’t try but my friends said were great!
I don’t really get the hype about this place. The gyoza didn’t really have any beef or meat in it. It did fall apart quickly too.nnThe ramen was good. I was expecting it to be better than good given there is a line always. The broth had many flavours and depth. The meat wasn’t that good and it was ground beef kinda meet. The noodles were ok.
Fun stop for some great ramen. Ordered the chili goma ramen that they recommended and it was really good!nnThe spice level was not too high so it was enjoyable to eat and the noodles were nice and springy.nnThey do have loud music that some people may be offput by but the service and food made up it.nnThe shop is a bit small and is more like an Izakaya feel with a modern look.
Shiki Menya offers a delightful ramen experience. Their ramen and gyoza were scrumptious. The rich flavors and expertly prepared dishes make it clear why eager patrons are willing to queue. Will come back to try the other dishes on their menu. Definitely a must-visit for any food enthusiast in Calgary.
