We visited here while on vacation. It was such an incredible experience. We had a group of eight, including two kids. We all had an amazing time wandering the grounds and exploring the exhibits. We were only there for a few hours, so we did not even get close to seeing everything. This is definitely on our list to return to when we go back to Vermont.
Wonderful experience! Every part of the Museum is its own exhibition by itself. One can spend hours in there. Some parts of the museum are really interactive, such as the Blacksmith and the Printer Shop. A huge memorabilia of American History. Tickets prices are above average, but it is worth it. The Museum organizes a lot of family activities and, in some circumstances, entrances are free. Enjoy!
So much to see, thank goodness the ticket is good for two consecutive days! Loved the Luigi Lucioni exhibit. Art for everyone. Historic buildings. Gardens. Circus exhibit of hand carved wooden figures should not be missed! Many carriages and sleighs, a blacksmith shop, a print shop, a schoolhouse, a tavern, a lighthouse, and a steamboat! Plenty to see for all ages.
Absolute wonder of a museum! Fantastic look back at many historical aspects of Vermont and beyond, loacted within a beautiful expanse of rolling hills with wonderful views. I'd highly recommend this to any age group as it's well worth the visit. Every time you go you'll see something new as it's a true treasure trove of a different era!
Oh my gosh, how do you even start to describe this place? It's like 40 museums in one go - there are carriages, and antique duck decoys, and at least 4 art museums. There's a full sized-train, a miniature circus parade, a lighthouse and a whole steamboat! There are pioneer buildings, a print shop, a church, a schoolhouse, on and on. Your ticket is good for 2 days and I suggest you use them! I planned a full day but my phone battery died from taking too many pictures so I came back to take pictures of what I missed, and I found whole sections I had overlooked the first time! And that's not even counting the beautiful gardens. Make sure to take any tours you come across. I did a tour of the steamboat and two of the houses you can only visit on a tour, so make sure to catch those, the're very worth it and you see stuff you wouldn't see otherwise. Highly recommended and a complete, and delightful, surprise.
The ticket is valid for two days and, if you want to see everything without running around, you will need them. This is a phenomenal place with a little bit for any everyone, all kinds of interests. The café is expensive but it saves you a lot of time and it is very convenient. Everyone that works there was extremely nice and welcoming.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$31+
A fascinating museum that has something for everyone! From the historic homelife of NY socialites to the inner workings of riverboats and the lived experiences of early settlers in VT, this speaking estate deserves a full day to take in. With breathtaking views and thought provoking installations, the work from local, national and international artists is not to be missed! We went for 4 hours yesterday and are returning to see the rest of this fantastic museum today!
This place is a really big museum! The amount of stuff that they were able to keep in pristine condition is wild. All of the employees are super friendly to talk to and also answer questions about what it’s like to live in Vermont. 10/10 would recommend Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$11–15
Just go. Spend the day. Take it all in. Its truly an amazing place with an amazing story. I had no idea what I really was talking into - but I learned the history of the museum as I walked the grounds. What a spectacular and eclectic place.
I don't go to museums too often, but am I glad I decided to check this place out! There are so many different exhibits and eras of American history here. I loved walking through the Ticonderoga and the circus building. I was here for nearly three hours and didn't even cover half of the place. Make sure you check out the doll room, creepy stuff!
