I found this area during a trip to Pinhey's Point. I didn't explore the entire area but headed straight to the water. The trail there is nice but can be quite steep so could be problematic for those with mobility issues. Walking stick or poles may help. There is a wooden walkway to help get you down to the water. The water was nice and calm when I visited. It's a nice relaxing spot to sit and waste a bit of time. It looks as though some people have had bonfires there but the area is clean Will certainly visit again. I'll add a few pics. Note: No washrooms here so be aware before you make the trip.
Well maintained small trail network that has access to a great rocky beach to walk along. Love taking the dogs here for a walk and play in the river. Free parking and a few trashcans at the trail head. Restrooms: No restrooms. Dog-friendliness: On leash required but great combination of wooded trails and a rocky beach to walk along
Nice park with a gravel beach. Just an FYI, the trail to and from the beach is steep in places.
Very quiet park right by the water Sheila McKee park is situated by the Ottawa River. Park the car in the entrance, then walk about 10 minutes through a downward trail to the river shore. It’s rustic and natural. We enjoy skipping rocks or listening to the waves crashing to shore. It’s a peaceful little park.
Amazing place. It’s really peaceful with much less crowd.
Cool hidden gem along the Ottawa River. Easy hike to the river there are stairs to help down the steepest part. Not open in Winter but definitely a good hike in the open season.
The beach is a really nice place to sit quietly and skip rocks. It's pretty in the winter too. Echoing the other reviews, there is a rather steep gravel path that makes me a little nervous on regular summer days, but in the winter it's almost like an ice slide. Still, if you're willing to risk it, it usually is possible to edge down the side of the gravel road slowly, hanging onto trees, but it's definitely a do-it-at-your-own-risk type of activity. The parking lot isn't maintained, so it's closed in the winter after snow fall. There is usually space to park outside on the side of the road. Something to note, there is a sign further down the road south side towards the bend that also says Sheila McKee with a parking lot, but is actually the sail club. The entrance with the red sign is the one to the park. Can be confusing for first-time visitors.
Nice short hike through the woods that lead to a lovely pebble beach with a great view. I wanted to note that it is not accessible for all as it is extremely steep which makes it tricky to walk up and down especially while carrying things. There are some stairs but even those are steep and at the end of the stairs in order to get on to the beach you need to climb around and over some big rocks. Good to keep in mind that if you have a disability regarding mobility, any balance issues or trouble walking this is not the place for you. Might even be difficult for small children or mothers with strollers and wagons.
I love this park. If you are taking the trail to the water it is very steep hill and then has stairs that have open railings so you will have to hold onto your little kids! Not swimmable but kids will have fun splashing, climbing and throwing rocks. Great place for dogs !
Nice walk. My review is specific to this time of year. I'm sure it much more beautiful in summer. Beautiful trails that are well marked. Today the drive into the parking lot was very muddy and the trails were icy. I mostly came here to go down by the water and see the small waterfalls but the stairs were covered in ice and even with crampons would be too dangerous. I really look forward to returning here in the summer.
