The food was amazing!! Can totally understand the high ratings, we will definitely be back for the food. The service on the other hand was horrible. No warm welcoming and our server completely ignored us while going to the few tables surrounding us. Never checked on us, refilled waters or even brought the bill despite bringing the bill and talking for a very long time to surrounding tables. We even had to go inside to order something else. We are both servers so we’re always pretty aware of the service we receive. If the food wasn’t so good, the service would have turned us away.
Eaten here a few times now, and the food is always delicious. The pakora shrimp and regular naan are amazing, but the stuffed naan misses the mark a little. We're working our way through the menu, and have tried everything now, but our favorite is the Kashmiri! A couple of things we don't like though, warm rice pudding, and there's a huge difference in spice level between mild and medium!
Amongst some of the tastiest Indian food I have had in Canada. Up there with Coconut Lagoon in ottawa Herbs and spices and vibrant and fresh. The mango lassi tho was overly season and unusually for my taste. Execution was good, but I was just unsure if it's to my preference.
Went there after a Monday hike. Waited a while to get service - they are just so swarmed! We were seated at the front, beside all the take out ordering and can see the people streaming in for their orders - and I soon see why they are popular. The mango lassi and chai tea are delicious, and oh their curry? Absolutely fantastic! The lamb was cooked to be tender and the garlic and coconut naan bread mix with it so well! The portion is a bit on the big side that 2 guys finishing off a decent 6 hour hike are stuffed friend who also ordered rice had to pack the food home for the next day
Excellent food and skilled cooks. Having visited the restaurant multiple times, I can attest to the quality of the food, which is undoubtedly delicious and flavourful. However, they treat depend of your color or language skills. Despite the quality of the food, the service leaves much to be desired. On my recent visit, I ordered food to go, and when I picked it up, the cashier seemed uninterested and lacked basic customer service skills which was quite frustrating. It's disappointing that such a fantastic restaurant with great food falls short in this aspect. As a result, I feel like I'm doing them a favor by purchasing food from them, which shouldn't be the case and that poor customer service detracts from the dining experience.
I had the 2 meat, 1 veggie lunch combo and it was absolutely terrific! Great flavour and cooked perfect. I was full but had to try the Kheer…my favourite dessert and It was fantastic as well. My first visit here and I’ll definitely be back for more fine food.
Had lunch with a friend. I love the Shandahar Hut. I've never had a bad Indian meal there. Food is always very flavorful. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: Pretty much everything can be done vegetarian, so lots of choice.
Delicious dinner!! Best Indian food I’ve ever had. We ordered Josh Rogan, butter chicken, veg pakora, veg samosa, coconut rice and garlic naan. Will definitely be back. Soo good! Wasn’t very spicy.
Delicious food!! We ordered the beef samosa platter along with panipuri to start. The beef samosa was extremely good, not greasy at all. Panipuri was very good as well but a very small portion. Butter chicken, chicken korma, and lamb saag were for the main course. All were very good but the butter chicken was our favorite. There is not too much meat in each order, the lamb saag seemed like there were only four small pieces of meat in it. We also ordered three kinds of naan and two orders of rice pilau. The rice was very light and fluffy and the naan was good. I wish there was more garlic on it but that may just be my personal preference. We ordered hot which was not hot enough for our taste, next time we would go for the Indian hot. My wife and I like very spicy food. The appetizers took about half an hour to come out. The food took just over an hour. I think they were short staffed. It was just over $100 to feed three people. I would recommend eating here.
Overall the food was flavourful and hearty. Enjoyed the rogan josh curry with lamb. The "medium heat" spiciness was enough to induce gustatory rhinitis a runny nose, while the "mild" version was completely devoid of spicy heat, but nonetheless delicious. The rice was a little too greasy for my taste, while the garlic naan had ample butter. The masala chai tea's flavour blend was overpowered by a licorice or fennel taste. Service was also good, although the dining area & seats were a little chilly, with drafts from the door adding to the discomfort. Vegetarian options: Menu identified several vegetarian options. Parking: About 10 parking spots on the south side of the building. Dietary restrictions: Dishes that are gluten-free and cashew nut-free are identified on the menu.
