Oh my gosh, I'm so glad I got to have breakfast at Shades! The coffee was exactly what you'd expect from a well known diner. It was perfect. I had the huevos rancheros and they were excellent. The refried beans were so tasty! My partner had the French toast and the slices were almost 2 inches thick! He said they were so good, but could have used more syrup. The server was really busy, and wasn't able to get him more syrup or refill my coffee. That was the only downside, but like many other places, being short-staffed and super busy certainly wasn't her fault. I will definitely make a stop in again if I travel through Penticton!
The food is to die for, delicious aroma and even better tasting! We all enjoyed different dishes. The service was impeccable, friendly, quick and most important accurate and well timed delivery to the table! This is a must stop on your visit to town or even better a regular stop during your day. Never disappointed with this place. Sundays can take a little longer to get your food but it is worth the wait. Every time I come to town it is a must stop. The service is always friendly and the food always good.

I would rate no stars if I could. Never git to try shades. So today was out woth my mother and thought to take her to breakfast and try shades. We waited and got seated waitress. Brought coffee. Nobody was in the restaurant. As we sat and waited for our order to be taken three other tables had walked in. They all got served and orders taken. Another table walked in same thing. I tried to flag the waitress but to no prevail. There was a shorter older woman running around I said can we get our order taken and she said you wait okay busy. WHEN WE ARRIVED NO ONE WAS IN THERE! so we got up went to the till said to the older lady at the till we couldn't get our order taken so we are leaving and she rudely slammed a bill on the counter down. Said 7.35! Loud. I don't understand why we were treated this way. so we paid the bill and left. Wow.
I’ve been to this little restaurant a few times and I’ve yet to be even remotely dissatisfied. The portions are large, enormous if you get an omelet, piping hot and always served with a big smile. They make you feel at home and so welcome, even better the coffee is out of this world. This is a must go to if you’re looking for some delicious, satisfying food that’s worth the $$, it’s not crazy amounts either. ENJOY!!
By far one of the worst Monte Cristo sandwiches I've ever eaten. Had ppl rave about the Monte Cristo sandwich at this place , do we decided to give it a try. Well the bread was plain, thin and sandwich lacked flavor and was cold. Won't be going back.
Worked here in 1986 to 88. Lots of changes since but still a nice place to eat and bring family. Small portions available and for me is really helpful.Food: 4/5
Our family had breakfast this morning, it was all very hot and delicious, this was our first time eating here and we were not disappointed and will definitely be back again, our waitress Jamie was fantastic and came around numerous times to make sure we had everything we needed with a smile on her face every time.
