I have had a dreadful experience with this school. Last year I completed my BDE with Selbak Driving School, all the requirements needed by the MTO but didn't pick up my certificate at the end. Honestly, I assumed this had been done at the end of the course and would be on a database somewhere. I passed my test with another instructor and when I applied for insurance they said I still needed my BDE certificate. I went back to Selbak and he said "sure, call in next time I have class and I will put through the certificate." Then he said "It will cost $150.00." This is on top of the $550.00 I originally paid to the school. I didn't pay and came back a few days later with a witness, he started questioning me on who I took lessons with etc. and then said he wasn't going to put through my certificate after all, made up some excuse about me not signing some paper all papers, tests etc. were completely signed, including the final test., At first there was no dispute that I had finished the course but after a few days suddenly a few hours were missing!! Then he said I would have to do the whole course again, at a discounted $440.00. He clearly wanted more money and thought I would pay it. Other people who did the course at the same time as me and went in later for their certificates had no problem getting them. After repeated letters and emails that were ignored I called Selbak by phone to resolve this and he started screaming down the phone, effing and swearing in a very intimidating way and saying "sue me if you want, you'll not get your certificate, call the Ministry." I was really shaken by this conversation. I now have to pay higher insurance because he refused to deliver on the promise that my BDE with his school would gain me a Ministry approved certificate. Really, really unhappy about all this. I may have to go to Lifeline or another more reputable school and redo the course though this is a real time waster, and I completed my BDE with Selbak Driving School and have already passed the test with another instructor. I have a serious complaint lodged with the MTO and The Ministry of consumer protection. I find this all a waste of my time but, like most people I'm sure, I really take exception to being ripped off by a money grabbing business owner with no regard for customer service. I'll pursue this to the end.
