SO DELICIOUS. This place has only been open a few weeks and will blow up for sure. Reasonably priced for the incredible quality, trendy “open kitchen” atmosphere, and absolutely delicious flavour palettes. Our favourites were the chicken satay, fried chicken, and duck yolk tofu. The chocolate durian pudding was surprising and won our hearts too! AND - the entire menu is gluten free.
Overall, we had a good time at this Indonesian/Malaysian restaurant. The food was good, especially the fried mushroom dish, which I highly recommend trying. The chef was friendly and attentive, and our dishes arrived promptly. The staff were also friendly, although we did have to remind them a few times to bring us the bill. Overall, it was a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience, and I would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try!
WOW. Would you believe chocolate-durian pudding works? Do you want to taste flavour combinations that North Americans rarely get to try? Satu Lagi is the place to go. We decided to go over and try it on the 2nd night after its soft opening on Valentine's Day 2023. We are SO glad we did. Indo-Malay cuisine is fabulous. This place does it proud. I tend to write reviews only when I am incredibly impressed by an establishment. I've been guilty of being overly enthusiastic before, so I will try to tone down my hyperbole here, just to say that Satu Lagi is really one of the best new restaurants in town. Owners Kimberley and Kevin have already created the best SE Asian takeout place in Montréal Krapow, nearby. In the Malay language and in Bahasa Indonesia "satu lagi" means "one more" or "another" and whether this is a play on words it's "one more" restaurant for this couple, or just an indication that they presume customers will want "one more" dish, it's a very appropriate name. Why? Because after every meal, I can guarantee you will already start to think of the next visit to have "one more" serving of your fave dish. Portion sizes served tapas-style are perfect for individuals or sharing. Presentation is immaculate. The service is really warm and inviting; staff are super-friendly and attentive to detail. The kitchen is semi-open, next to the bar. The decor is simple, clean, and tasteful. There is a warmth to the place, in the wooden tables & chairs and the bright walls, and the small spots of greenery all around, that evoke Asia, nestled among the many cafes and shops on Avenue Mont-Royal. And we did get a chance to say hi to the owners and congratulate them on this new venture. I couldn't give Satu Lagi a higher recommendation. And as shocking as it might be, the durian-infused chocolate mousse pudding for dessert was UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. Just try it. Do not pass up this restaurant. It is a gem, and deserves to flourish and become an icon of the Montréal food scene. Vegetarian options: Several options are vegetarian-friendly, and absolutely delicious. For lacto-ovo vegetarians, more than 50% of the items on the menu are OK. Dietary restrictions: If I'm not mistaken, all items are gluten-free, and almost all are dairy-free. For those who are vegan, I think you would have to ask to verify which products can be made without any animal products whatsoever, as they may use fish sauce in a few, and others include animal products as primary ingredients.
Hip and trendy spot with a variety south-east Asian inspired cocktails and small tapas style dishes to share. We dropped by on a Friday evening, and were glad to have reserved because the restaurant filled up really quickly. Service was attentive and efficient. The cocktails were interesting, we really enjoyed the « pandan riz », really smooth and creamy. The pomelo cocktail was delicious until it soaked up the piece of kombu seaweed that came with it, and took on a salty taste. Go with the satay daging skewers, they were juicy and flavourful. We also got the whole fried fish they were out of snapper so we were offered doradesea bream? instead for 35$. The fish turned out to be quite small and dry but the duo of dipping sauces were very good. The mushrooms were deep fried and had soaked up a lot of oil. All in all, a good experience. :
As an Indonesian, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience eating here. I think that this restaurant is better than what Vancouver has by far. My favorite dish would be the Iga Bakar which was seasoned really well. The gado gado was quite spicy which I enjoyed. The sate ayam belacan was good, but I wished i could taste the belacan more. Would totally recommend this place !
Such amazing Indonesian food! And the cocktails are incredible too! Everybody was super sweet to us. We will be back for sure! Food: 5/5
My husband and I have been three times since they opened and we're thrilled to see this restaurant getting the attention it deserves. We were addicted to takeout from Krapow the owners' first venture the avenue so we knew we'd love the food here, plus the opportunity for a cocktail! We were right. This place is perfect for a date night. The service is incredible and attentive. We appreciate being welcomed warmly and just hope we'll still be able to get seated once word gets out. We've tried almost everything on the menu over the last three visits. You can't go wrong. The flavors are balanced and the spice is serious.
I heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a try. I loved the food, especially the squid! I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back soon
I’ve been here twice now over the span of a month. All I can say is "yum yum yum!!". I’ve tried about half of the menu. Both meat and vegetarian. I read the negative comments because I was curious. I can say that I have no reference for authentic Malaysian cuisine, so I can’t attest to that. And as for anyone complaining about the price… have you been outside lately? I feel like their prices are not inflated as compared to eating literally anywhere else with this level of quality and attention. Wine selection is really nice! My only beef is the cocktail menu - we tried 3 and found only 1/3 to be well balanced. Looking forward to our next date night to taste the rest of this varied, balanced menu.
My wife have been here twice this month. Our new favourite spot in the neighbourhood! Great food, cocktails and ambiance. Barman Ty is a gentleman and goes the extra mile! A great and talented team. Will be back soon.
