Our stay at the Sandman Signature Calgary Downtown Hotel was a great introduction to Canadian hospitality, marking our very first hotel experience anywhere in Canada! From the moment we checked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, setting a wonderful tone for our visit.nWe found our room to be exceptionally comfortable, a true haven after days of exploring. The beds were nice and comfortable. The bathroom was another highlight; modern, sparkling clean, and well-appointed, it felt like a true luxury.nThe hotel's location truly couldn't have been better. We were able to walk everywhere, exploring downtown Calgary with ease and feeling completely safe as we ventured out on our own. It was a perfect base for experiencing the city.nThe only minor drawback we encountered was with the air conditioner/heater combo unit in the room. While it certainly kept us comfortable, its initial start-up was quite loud and jolted us awake a few times during the night. It's a small detail, but worth noting. One thing that would have elevated our stay even further would have been a complimentary breakfast option. Coming from the U.S., where free breakfast is a fairly standard offering in many hotels, it's something we've come to appreciate. We're not sure if this isn't as common in Canada, but it would have been a lovely added touch to an otherwise perfect stay. Overall, our experience at this hotel was overwhelmingly positive. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Calgary and would happily stay there again!
The hotel itself was quite nice—clean rooms and pleasant atmosphere. However, service left a lot to be desired. We requested extra towels for the pool and were only given a couple, leaving us short. When I tried to call the front desk, I was on hold for 5 minutes before anyone picked up. Later in the evening, we asked for an extra blanket, and after waiting more than 30 minutes with no follow-up, I had to go down to the front desk myself—only to wait another 10 minutes to get it. The staff were friendly enough when I did interact with them, but the delays and lack of follow through were frustrating.
Stayed here for a week. Overall a decent hotel except for one morning. The entire building was evacuated due to a fire alarm at 4:45AM. When we were finally allowed back in I had to rush to get ready for work. As I was leaving and barely on time to make my ride to work, the elevator broke down and got stuck in between 2 floors see attached photo I was stuck in the elevator for over an hour with 2 other guests and one staff member, obviously making me late for work. My colleague stated he had stayed at this hotel a few years prior and had also gotten stuck in the elevator, so this is not an isolated incident.nnI returned late that night and went immediately to bed. Upon checking out the following day, I asked if the hotel planned to do anything to rectify the situation of me having gotten stuck. They offered me a gift card to the restaurant, which was useless as I was on my way to the airport at that instant. They then stated that if I returned to that hotel in the future they could give me something. I rarely travel to Alberta anymore, so who knows if that offer will still stand when I do end up going back. The least they could have done is offer me a few nights valid in any of their hotels, so that at least if I travel elsewhere I can still feel like they made the situation right.
Hotel itself is alright. It's clean enough, but pretty old and dated. The problem and benefit is location. Perfect during the day, but definitely sketch to go out after dark around there. Front desk staff were really great. Reasonably quiet for a downtown hotel.
Checked in Jun and stayed four nights. The hotel has a good location with the C train nearby but it would be very noisy even we stayed in the higher floors. The C trains operate from 5am to 2am. The room is clean however the hotel does not provide slippers that is a bit weird. We stayed in standard suite with King size bed. We brought our slippers but the housekeeper threw our slippers when she did housekeeping. We felt sad about it. They should train their housekeeper by not touching any personal items. Besides, the soundproof is not very good because we can hear the talking, phone ringing from our next room.
