We heard good things about SanKai. Recommend making reservations. We didn't, but lucky to get bar seats. Quite and comfortable. Ordered a few pieces of Nigiri. Service was fast. Nice presentation. Fish was fresh. Taste was a little bland. Tempura vegetables were spot on excellent. Overall, good experience.
This place became one of our favorite sushi restaurant. We came here during restaurant week. We ordered one SRW menu omakase. The oyster is very refreshing, and the 10 pieces of sushi are just amazing. We end up ordered 2 more times with 10+ pieces each time. Their Japanese uni is one of the best uni I have ever had in the Seattle area. They also have a special list of fish that you can rarely find at other places. We end up spent way more than we planned but it was all worth it. Definitely will come back again.
Glad to have a sushi place near me. Sushi was good and fresh not mind blowing. The rolls didn’t have their own unique flavors- tasted pretty similar yo each other. Maybe it was just what we ordered. Deserts - the yuzu mousse cake was my favorite. I like tart so it was an easy choice. The Japanese soufflé cheesecake was like any good cheesecake. Opera cake not a boring dessert - chocolate rich with coffee flavor. Flan is housemate and was meh. Enjoyed the Chuhai -lemon flavor was like a long cold summer drink. Shishito peppers were very good, but the highlight was the kaarage chicken. Looks a little bland but really loved the flavors. Unexpectedly delightful. Green beans tempura were crunchy but not exciting. Service was good except a little distracting when someone came by to clear the plates every so often or wanting to check if I’m done with my drink. Before we ordered we asked for separate checks, server agreed but at the end said they can only do 3 instead of separate checks. Not a huge deal but let us know right in the beginning to save us the headache of figuring it out later?
Best sushi I've eaten, of course it's fresher here in the Pacific Northwest. Make sure you check out Fresh Sheet for the latest specials, too.
We came to SanKai first during the pandemic. We ate in tents outside, it rained all around us. The food was delicious and the ambiance just right for your neighborhood sushi spot. Whenever we'd have a hunkering for sushi and we'd always come here. Sadly, quality seemed to have changed. We came by last night on a Thursday for my 3 year old son's bday. He loves sushi but the nigiri seemed unusually warm, the fish particularly fishy. Now I typically eat all qualities of sushi with no regrets Taneda, Albert-san Albertson's you name it. But not last night. Stomachaches, runny stools , whole family even my kiddo. Oof. What a way to celebrate a bday. Maybe it was an off night or something else. We probably won't be coming back. Kid-friendliness: As long as your kid eats nigiri, ikura and uni, your kid will fit in just fine Parking: Just circle around and walk a bit farther. There's always something available
Pretty good spot for sushi in Edmonds! If you don't want to drive to Seattle for good sushi, visit here! Must try Japanese soufflé cheesecake! Nomnomnom. Rolls are half size... sankai roll in the back and I think it was spider roll in the front. Sushi are individual orders.
We eat a lot of sushi so tried this place based on reviews. Had the sashimi omakase, 2 rolls and Kasu marinated black cod. Sashimi quality was ok but expected better for the price. Kasu black cod was excellent and definitely the highlight. Service was fast and friendly. Recommend getting a reservation. We walked in and had to wait even though the restaurant was half empty.
Make a reservation or you'll be waiting awhile. Good service, excellent traditional Japanese cuisine with fabulous options. This is not a fake crab California roll and cream cheese establishment. Clean and fresh seafood. Superb flavors. The cucumber sticks are oddly delicious and mouth cleansing. Black marinated cod is on point.
One of the freshest chirashi bowls I've had yet in WA : great fish quality- uni in particular is melt-in-your-mouth decadent, and all three desserts were amazing opera cake, souffle cheesecake and flan!
Pictures: monkfish liver, agedashi tofu, chirash, nigiri. A decent mid-high end sushi establishment. You will get a personal experience and anything you order will likely not disappoint. It wasn't quite exceptional compared to my favorite sushi restaurantin this price range in WA, Kiku's, but it's close. Everything they have served me was fresh and authentic.
