I only stayed for one night, since it was a really quick trip. However, if my itinerary had been different, I would be happy to have stayed longer. Honestly, the staff was so nice; the kitchen, bathroom, showers were incredibly clean. I always double-check surfaces before putting stuff down, and 8/10 times I have to clean it. That was not the case here, I was really impressed by it.nnI was in a 6-bed female dorm, and everyone was friendly. The bed was comfortable, and had curtains for privacy. My only feedback would be that the lockers were situated really close to one of the bunkbeds, which didn't affect me. However, I had to leave at 5am so it might have been a little noisy, when I was taking my stuff out, for whoever was sleeping near the lockers.nnOverall, I would recommend it.
Positives:nn1 Perfect location: plenty of many restaurants from different cuisines available around the area;nn2 Convenience stores and grocery stores also nearby;nn3 Wonderful, complete kitchen for those actually cooking while traveling;nn4 Continental breakfast.nn5 So close to the cable car/street car.nn6 Wifi is pretty stable in all areas.nnDownsides:nn1 Common Room is close from 11pm - 7am, so, if you are working remotely around those hours, unfortunately there’s no other room open except the dining room.nn2 Women’s bathroom on the 3rd floor cubicle space are just too tight. I am small in height. I cannot imagine how other guests, tall people specifically, can use those cubicles.nn3 Lockers in my room were so old they are already rusting away. They repainted the outer side, but insides are just full of rust.nn4 They only refilled the bath/shampoo at the 3rd floor women’s shower room on the 6th day of my stay here…
I'd like to preface this review with saying that the hostel itself, and the staff are fantastic. However, nowhere on the site did it mention that it's located right next to a homeless shelter. As a young, solo, female traveller - a heads up would've been nice about the area I was staying in. I did not feel one bit safe whilst staying in this area. It's not enough to just keep saying that it's just a vibrant community with character, solo female travellers have to be aware of these things! Had I have known about this, I wouldn't have stayed here. I'm aware there's nothing the hostel can do about it, but more of a heads up to other female travellers looking to stay here. It wasn't a pleasant experience to watch addicts shooting up right outside the hostel and shouting abuse at you, screaming at people and fighting amongst themselves.nThe bathrooms are in okay condition, they were clean whenever I went in, however the rust in the showers could be fixed, and the shampoo/shower gel was never topped up when I used the shower.nAnother note - it's not accessible. There's no elevator. I have a bad knee problem, so it was extremely tough going up and down the stairs constantly.nOverall, I wouldn't recommend nor stay here again.
First time staying at a hostel and had a great experience! Front desk staff are super helpful and welcoming. Lots of local cafes, bars, and shops nearby. Transit stops right nearby. Lots of activities going on in the evenings if that’s your style, or the rooms are quiet if you head up early. Breakfast in the morning is a nice option especially if you don’t have groceries or just want a quick bite before heading out.nOnly thing is could use a little more cleaning. Lots of dust bunnies in the rooms and the showers were a little grimy but for communal facilities it’s hardly a big deal.
The inconvienience of have to go down to shower/toilet due to out of order, smaller room than in picture, lack of privacy for shower, locker can't fit luggage. Good location and free breakfast, huge complete kitchen and dining area
