"Everybody needs a neighborhood French joint, and Salut is just that: casual, comfortable, with a menu broad enough for Americans yet refined enough for zee French. Join us in St. Paul or Edina for cocktails and wine at the bar, oysters on the half shell, an extraordinary burger and fries, or the single best bowl of French Onion Soup this side of the Seine."

We had a good experience here and would go again. We sat inside but there is a huge outdoor area I would like to try next time. This places goes out of its way to let you know it is FRENCH! Decor, menu, etc. There are not as many entrees and choice as I would prefer, instead the menu is grouped into several sections with 4 or 5 items in each. We had the octopus appetizer and scallops appetizer both of which were wonderful. The drinks were fabulous, they make a great martini and give you an extra glass of booze to refill your stem glass. Nice. I had the Cobb salad entrée and I didn't really enjoy it. I should have ordered the baked walleye. My wife had the steak sandwich and really enjoyed it. Also as our waiter was bringing the round of drinks he spilled some down my back which I didn't appreciate!
Salut is perfect for dinner or just a nightcap thanks to their skilled bartenders, simple yet effective cocktail menu, and lively atmosphere. If you do go for dinner, the wines by the bottle are so well priced, you won't break the bank if you have a cocktail to start. The escargot was a great start and the pastry atop the mushroom tart was cooked to perfection but the star of the evening was the hangar steak with garlic butter and bernaise. Excellent value and great selection of wines by the glass too. Can't wait to try even more of the menu on their beautiful patio.
Very cute and cozy. French music playing in the background and posters everywhere. Very French inspired American menu. Everything I tried was pretty good. Had their ginger ale with house made syrup that was refreshing. Went during weekend brunch and got their Benedict florentine-overall flavors were wonderful. Downside, huge slice of raw tomato underneath the beautiful poached egg and sautéed spinach really let me down. But the sauces on this were delectable and the creamy hash that comes with is gooey goodness. I’d go again to try other things in the menu. Maybe just not for brunch, since the menu is small and it can get pretty crowded. Servers and employees were kind and helpful as well.
Have our 2 year anniversary here. There happy hour Is really good!!! There dishes are amazing. It gets super busy there. Make sure to make a reservation. All there wait staff were very nice too!! Would love to come back and check out there patio if it’s not raining.
Amazing!! Definitely a must-eat-at spot if you're in the area. Crab cakes are amazing Steaks with fries are delicious The fries! - They are French! Parking: Back parking lot makes parking easy. Excellent considering they are in the city.
The waitress was very sweet and attentive. She gave her opinion on what was good and she did not steer us wrong. We got the garlic butter steak, a pasta, the chicken with potatoes and a cup of french onion soup. All of it was amazing, the steak was our favorite. For desserts we got creme brulee, a chocolate mousse and a salted caramel creme. All of it was amazing but the salted caramel was beyond my favorite. I almost ordered a second one!
My mom and I went for dinner tonight. Everything was outstanding. I had the oysters and a beet and watermelon salad. Mom had the 3 course Sunday Supper and wow. Everything was so good. Great happy hour selections and prices. Fjnished with a dark chocolate mouse that was so decadent and rich. We loved everything. We will be back!!!
I had a great experience and the atmosphere was very nice. The reason for my visit was the date they said I said a quiet table like I had asked that Mojitos were tasted excellent and my steak was prepared just right. I will say though it is expensive. For just the two of us it was about $140 with tip.
This place is the best! My wife and I love to start out with oysters followed by the hanger steak. If you've never had a hanger steak then you owe it to yourself to give it a try. They are always cooked perfectly here and paired with the garlic butter on top it's darn near perfect. Finish it off with the creme brulee and you have a perfect meal! Thanks Salut!
Came here for my first visit ever to St Paul on a work trip. Excellent customer service and a tasty/boozy happy hour daily from 3-6. I recommend the sweet tater waffle fries and the French onion slider. Top it off with the NY Sour cocktail. Thanks to Charlie and Kevin for your hospitality. A+++
