FLIES IN OUR FOOD & HORRIBLE MANAGER- My boyfriend & I went there on October 15 2013 to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated right away as we walked in, & the waitresses were very nice. However, we ordered some appetizers, escargot, dry ribs & calamari. We ate the escargot & calamari & went on to the ribs. I picked up a rib, ate it, dusted my fingers off before I grabbed my straw in my drink to stir it & then of course have a drink of my drink. In my drink I now noticed there was a fly. The fly was not their previously, as my boyfriend & I both drank some of it he wanted to try it & we stirred it around. So the fly was from the ribs. We immediately called for our waitress, she apologized & my boyfriend said to cancel our meal, as we both lost our appetite & wanted to go somewhere else. She came back, said she cancelled it but we had to however pay for what we had already. My boyfriend said he would pay for the calamari, escargot & his drink, but he was not about to pay for the ribs or the drink of mine. She said we had to though, so my boyfriend asked for the manager. The manager Jim came to our table, I tried to explain what had happened, he cut me off & said we didn't have to pay for anything. We said "wow thankyou" & thought it was a nice gesture. However, he started to walk away & accused us under of his breath saying we just wanted a free meal, I asked "what?" he responded with the same comment. My boyfriend had no idea what he said so I repeated what he said. As we were walking out the door, Jim said to never come back again & I responded rudely back "we won't, you have flies in your food!" & we left. I will NEVER go there again & neither will my boyfriend. Jim was extremely rude to us & he was mad at us, for what? Him having flies in his food? I was utterly disgusted & I am not pleased with the situation at all. That was my first time being there & it was a horrible experience, again, I will never go back nor will I ever recommend that place. When we also called the waitress back to tell her about the fly in our food, she went to grab the manager. Jim took 17 minutes to come to our table to discuss the issue. Shouldn't you be on top of something like that?! I did talk to a few friends about this after & a couple said they were previously employed by Jim & said he was very rude & sexist so they quit a couple females. Another friend said he quit because the place was disgusting. So definitely beware, not a great place to go to at all.
Let me be clear: The service was excellent, and the employees were wonderful. The food was standard but ok. I brought my gaming group there several months ago for our weekly game, and we spent about 4-5 hours there on sunday afternoons we specifically went when it was slow, so we wouldn't disrupt other patrons. While we were there, we ordered lunch, dinner, and drinks throughout pop refills not being free, it added up. Between the 4-8 of us on any given day, we usually spent between $150 - $200 each weekend. On a few of the weeks we were there, the server told us that our table had a reservation on it at 5, and we would need to wrap up early. We did so, and did so without protest reservations are a fact of life for a restaurant, after all. Recently three weeks ago, one of the servers invited us to go into the lounge, since they don't have any customers in the lounge on sundays we definitely won't bother anyone, or get pushed out by reservations. This worked out well for us, as we just wanted somewhere to game. Again, let me say that the servers were very welcoming, engaged in our game "What are you playing? That looks like fun. Tell me about it!" This might seem unrelated, but it goes to demonstrate our commitment to being low-impact patrons, and that we were succeeding at it. Today we were told by our server that the staff member who ran the till apparently only one of the 5 people working today was allowed to run the till - yay delegation of authority! - But I digress was leaving right away, and we needed to cash out right away, but were welcome to stay. After we cashed out, a thin grey-haired man presumably the owner came to the table and told us that we needed to leave, that: "You're doing your business here, and I'm paying all of the taxes, and you're doing your business!" "I have to hire extra staff to deal with you" "If all of my customers were like you, I would go out of business!" and finally "We have to turn over the tables, and when you leave we won't have time to clean the tables!" Reminder again: One other table in the lounge got used the whole time we were there. Also, we dropped about $150 today on our tab. What really frustrates and confuses me is this: At no time were we asked to be quieter, at no time were we told there was a problem with us. Everything was friendly, right up until the owner decided to be very rude and disobliging. TLDR: Servers were great, would go again, but the owner is rude, incomprehensible, and doesn't want groups of regulars to come in and drop hundreds of dollars on his slowest afternoon/evening. Very well, sir. Yours doesn't have to be the place we spend our money. Don't go there.
My friends and I frequented this establishment weekly when it was quiet to game. The food is good. The service is good. But the owner unexpectedly asked our group to leave and never return. The experience was awkward and painful, as many of us work in the service industry and we know we were not out of line. We were paying for meals and drinks and dessert. We tipped. We were polite of other patrons. We had never been treated poorly or told of problems by the staff. We were blind-sided by this behaviour and it still bothers me deeply. I cannot understand it.
Even though I have been a customer for 20+ years, my 73 year old Mom & I didn't stay to eat on June 7th as Jim Owner rudely refused to give us a table by the window. He wanted to seat us in the section to the left as you enter the restaurant, we asked for a window seat & he said they were too busy to clean the open table, but gave us a seat in that section against the back wall. When Toula Owner immediately came out & cleaned the table, we thought that perhaps we would be able to move to the window table, but Jim said NO! YOU will not get THAT table! No explanation was given other than that. I said that I come often with friends & family to his restaurant & he repeated that we would NOT get that table! My Mom was shocked at the way we were being treated, so she said should we just leave. As we were leaving I said to Jim: I don't understand why you are acting this way! I am a long term customer who comes often & brings my friends & family & Toula has always been very gracious & pleasant to me. I said we understood that they are busy, that the table was dirty, but when it was cleaned right away, thought we would be able to move to it. He said it wasn't set up. I said and that was no problem, we had no problem at all waiting, just couldn't understand what his issue was. He said something else in an angry tone I'm not sure what I started to say something & while I was talking he turned & walked away. I never raised my voice, never swore, I kept my cool, which I can't say the same for Jim though. His behavior was completely bizarre, & he not only lost me as a customer, but all the ppl I bring in & would have continued to refer to this restaurant. After this incident it now makes sense all the times that I came in for lunch & there was hardly anyone there. I will miss Toula & her bright & welcoming smile & I'm sorry that this man is her husband. I certainly won't put another dime in his pocket!
Great place with a friendly staff. Many places have raised their prices a lot more in recent years, but not Salonika. The steak sandwich is a great deal.
Good basic Greek restaraunt. Excellent greek salad & lemon potatoes
