Safeway Arthur Street

This is a great grocery store on an easily accessible street not far from the Thunder Bay airport. Nice selection of ready made food and sandwiches or soup. Grabbed a roasted chicken from here and it was delicious, also the monster size subs are very enjoyable and good value as well! I would definitely recommend and would return any time I am visiting the area.

Safeway is my go-to supermarket. Very well organized store. Wide variety of products to shop for. The staff is friendly and helpful. Sometimes you can find a quality meat cut for half the price.

I felt like this store had lots of options and variety. The prices were in line with all the other stores with similar products. Ample parking in front of building. Regular and self check out.

This is a specific review of the deli department. Apparently at 530pm dinner time there was not a soul employed who was qualified to make a sandwich. This was the response after the employee first had no idea what a beef dip sandwich was. He said he was new and went to get help. Help arrived and that’s when we were informed they had no qualifications for sandwich making. It took everything I had in me to not have a fit in the store. I’m definitely qualified to make a sandwich and I don’t work there. What sandwich courses are required? Bread, cheese, meat, BAM SANDWICH. What does Safeway do different that requires more training to make one? This was not a case that the deli was closed for the night. Everything was still out. Disappointed and sandwichless. :

I was a customer of 40 years. This Safeway used to be known for their customer service which made the higher prices worth it. Sadly this isn't the case anymore. I've stood at deli and bakery counter to be ignored as well can't find an employee on the floor who can help. When I can get a staff member's attention they are often not helpful and many simply say I don't know when asked where certain products are located. Some don't even have knowledge of basic products. Example I asked where soya sauce was and the young lady said she didn't know what that was then walked away. This has become common. I even emailed the manager with customer service concerns and got no response. Unfortunately I've decided to longer shop here.
