CG has 24 sites all FF, no reservations. $7/$3.50. Tables, fire rings, vault toilets, trash bins, bear bins, however water was needing final testing but should be available on spigots scattered around. NO Cell signal on Verizon, att or TMobile. Host onsite. 8300 ft elenation. Most sites are small but a few are ok for TTs and RVs. Road up to big Piney lake was closed for construction project, even to hikers and bikes with threat of $$ fine! 23 mi from Big Piney, first 10 paved, last 10 are good condition graded gravel. Note there are a bunch of free dispersed camping sites from FS boundary to CG turnoff.
June 2021. Campground had only 1 other party present. While there were signs warning to store food there were no food lockers. The only food locker was at the unoccupied Host site. Seemed very lightly used as fire rings had moss and weeds growing in them. Long drive on dirt to get to it but it puts one in position to drive south thru Snider Basin to join the Lander Cutoff of the Oregon trail which is very scenic as well as historic.
Pretty quiet, great hosts, great hiking trails close by.
Very neglected and overgrown. Don't think the camp host was really on site, Drove around in the morning then never saw the rest of the day. There was only one other occupied campsite, didn't feel very safe.
Campground is closed thru July 2020 for improvements. Would have been nice to get notice before we came up there.
It's a great place to go camping they got some streams and a small Lake no motor boats an awesome place just to get away from people
Clean, quiet, place to camp. Thanks USFS!
