I just purchased a 2017 Les Paul Standard Sunburst from Rufus a couple of weeks ago, and felt compelled to write a review! Before the purchase, I had extensive interactions with Jonathan, Ben and Blaine. They were all professional, friendly, informative, patient, and courteous. Despite the location of the shop in Vancouver, Canada, I felt confident completing the long-distance transaction for shipping the guitar to my home in Virginia in the US. The guitar arrived last week and it was everything they promised! I've started gigging with the guitar last weekend and it's fabulous! I received an outstanding instrument at a very fair price. Couldn't be more pleased!
Just picked up my dream guitar from Rufus, the best guitar shop in town. I’ve been a customer for over 30 years. Relaxed and knowledgable staff and always helpful. The customer comes first.
Highly recommend this place for any guitar needs! I came here looking for a beautiful used classical guitar I saw online for a great price. The guys working were so patient and knowledgeable and took the time to answer all the questions I had about classical guitars, and gave me a few different options to play around with for at least an hour. I came back a few weeks later as I thought the action might be lowered to be more comfortable, and even after letting me know that their technicians were at a different location, the guys working that evening spent time figuring out ways they could fix it at that location. The amount of patience and care is obvious at this store, and each person working there is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. 10/10 experiences
Very knowledgeable and don't rip you off. Offered single pins when I lost one, also got them to replace a saddle and they were 1/3 of the price of two other places since they would only custom make me one to replace the broken one
It's a great store. The staff are super nice and it's all about guitars and basses and amps and pedals. All you need really. Plus you can take classes there.
Always an awesome experience at Rufus. Bought three guitars now from Blaine and company over the last year or so. Sent friends and family in to buy their own, which I do not do lightly. All have come to love the Rufus experience that is lacking at big box stores or online. I've had had the pleasure of dealing with most of the staff at some point, but mainly Blaine, Jack, Craig, Jessica, and Jonathan. They're fantastic people who run a very genuine culture at Rufus. They have tons of customers every time I go in there, and yet they remember me on a first-name basis, which is a delightful change from the big box experience. I'm not a big spender by any stretch of the imagination, either. More than that, it always feels like the staff are genuinely more interested in finding you the right instrument or gear than just selling solely for the sake of volume business. That does not go unnoticed with me and that is why I keep returning. If you aren't on a first name basis with your local guitar shop staff, swing by Rufus and strike up a conversation. You won't regret it.
I'd be wanting to pick up a Dreadnaught acoustic guitar and had played a number over the last year or so as I travelled to different cities. I live about 2 hours away from Vancouver so when it was finally time to pull the trigger I made my way to the folks at Rufus Guitar & Drums on Commercial Drive. As soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed by the friendly staff and when I asked about a guitar hanging on the wall it was in my hand and tuned up in an instant. As I expressed interest in comparing different brands and models they gave me my own testing room and had a set up of about 5 or 6 different guitars on stands in front of me. Before I was left to my own devices, Craig gave me a very knowledgeable run down on each brand and the different styles. If I had any questions, he was able to answer clearly and without hesitation; these guys know their stuff! After playing for a while I narrowed it down between two that I liked and without having to go asking for him he was already back in the room explaining the different nuances in structure and wood for each of the guitars before I ultimately decided on one. Once I'd picked my new Martin D28 Modern Deluxe he prepped it by giving it a once over, installing the tail pin, showing me the case and explaining to me how to properly use a humidifier. Talk about hands on. I walked out one happy camper and I will undoubtedly be returning to this shop for all of my future musical needs. Thank you Craig and the rest of the gang for making the experience of buying this piece of art one I will not forget. See you next time! Austin
Outstanding service and friendly interaction, handwritten note with comments about the Parallax I recently got from this folks. I appreciate the picks dropped in the box and the note. Nowadays purchasing online is a rather frigid interaction due to the nature of the platform, well, not with this guys. You will feel you are dealing with musicians and they certainly will create a warmth atmosphere about the whole transaction. Like the great Gustavo Cerati RIP Soda Stereo’s frontman will say: Gracias Totales!
I got my tricordia 12-string mandolin set up here and am really impressed with the workmanship. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Definitely a place to check out.
Nice selection of electric and acoustic guitars! I like how they have a couple acoustic rooms to play in privacy. Bought a used Martin for a good price. Staff is super helpful and easygoing. They even shipped the guitar back to me in toronto and didn’t charge extra for it.
