This is probably best choice restaurant to visit in Southampton. We were very happy that we came here, although we didn’t have the reservation, we were accepted, however reservations are encouraged. They have good choice on the menu and prices are very reasonable! Starter dishes were generous and main dish was gorgeous. Pan seared pickerel was very tasty, had the right balance of tenderness and crispness and you would want to come back for more! Paired with the right white wine, it was a dinner from heaven. Also very good vegan root salad, exactly how it was supposed to be prepared! Atmosphere is nice, service was great. Thank you! Vegetarian options: Very good Vegan root salad!
My husband, and young child, and I had a really delicious meal at Room 797 in April 2023. We started with the Duck Liver Parfait which was rich and delicious - the crostinis were crisp and salty, and the pickled onion was a great touch. We also ordered the Steak Tartare that was perfectly balanced with fat and acidity. The chips were an excellent choice and accompaniment. The Vegan Root Vegetable Salad was recommended to us. It was beautifully plated. My son enjoyed tempured chicken fingers specially made by the chef, while I thoroughly enjoyed the Pan Seared Pickerel with Lemon Caper Butter - I never order fish in restaurants, but I was soo glad to see Pickerel on the menu. Last but not least the Malted Milk Creme Brulee was perfection! See my photo! Overall we had a very memorable experience and I will be returning very soon because this place is a GEM!! Date night, birthdays, celebrations, lunch takeout, I'm there! Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp in the restaurant leading to more tables. The bathrooms are street level. Dietary restrictions: Chef David Small is very accommodating.
Room 797 is one of the best restaurants I’ve had a chance to dine in. Magnificent food, various perfectly matching selections, with every ingredient cooked to perfection. In particular, Pork Duo and BBQ Pork ribs & Fried chicken, with nicely smoked pork and juiciest chicken. Highly recommend the restaurant. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back more.
really wanted to love this place. Its cozy and has a nice feel. Our server was friendly and cheery. Party of 4 all ordering different meals from the limited menu. Couple take aways: We did feel a little rushed. Sort of pushed to get our orders in ASAP. Overall our meals were pretty good. Ribs 1/10. Inedible. Our server never check on how our meal was even once - nor our appetizers. Also never questioned when the rack of ribs that went uneaten were left at the end. The ribs showed no sight of being BBQ'd as described on the menu. Clearly not slow cooked as ribs should be and as a result were leather tough. Everything else was 8/10 or better. Oysters were excellent. Would we we return? Probably. Limited options in the area and other than a couple misses by the server and the kitchen, the rest of the experience went well. Pricing was also fair in our option. I think we came in around $270 for the 4 of us including wine.
Outrageously good food. Reasonably priced at this level of sophistication and quality at this neat knook in Southampton. Atmosphere is cozy and all staff were incredibly friendly. A must visit. Try the maple smoked bacon. To die for.
Nice small restaurant. High quality, flavourful food a a fairly reasonable price. Attentive staff. Long list of delicious sounding appetizers. We split the pierogi, which were good, but we only got three pierogi to split between two, while the table directly next to us got four pierogi between the two of them. Steak frites was a large, juicy cut cooked under the desired doneness. Roast chicken was perfect with a healthy portion of smooth and buttery mash. $20 seemed steep for a Macallan 12, but it may have been poured as an unrequested double.
I had the Pork Duo as my main course. This was the best pork meal I have ever had - extremely flavourful and so moist. For dessert I had the cheese plate that's on the menu as an appetizer. There's typically one cheese in a cheese board I don't like. Not in this case as all were delicious, with lovely accompaniments. I highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly be returning.
Great place good food steak was great the vegan Root Salad was good and the creme brulee was delicious and prices are good to. I will definitely be back again
Food was excellent. Drinks were good. The steak and the lamb could not have been better. Oysters were fresh, and the cheese plate was an excellent starter. Very accommodating and friendly. And very reasonably priced. The only knock I can give this place is the atmosphere could use a little pizzazz. While cozy, it lacked character
We ended up at rm797 by default and it turned out to be our best dinner out in Southampton. We sat out on their lovely back patio. Soft jazz music was playing and we enjoyed our wine and scrumptious dinners. The tomato soup, Caesar salad, vegan root salad, perogies, and pickerel dinners were all great as was our server! I would highly recommend rm 797 and if you can get onto the back patio take it! Looking forward to eating here again next time we are in town. Cheers!
