I joined the Regiment in 1957. In those days we used battle dress in winter and olive drab "bush" uniforms in the summer. We drilled with Lee Enfields No. 4 mk 1s with the spike bayonets and our LMG was the BREN. We also had a Browning Medium Machine gun. We went on summer camps at Wainwright AB, Workpoint Barracks in Victoria, Hamilton-Gault barracks in Edmonton and Vancouver In about 1960 ish we were issued with the FN-CIAI rifle, a beautiful rifle that used a twenty round magazine and fired 7.62 mm rounds (.308 Cal.). Beautiful to shoot. I spent until 1965 in the regiment. We raided the Air Force Radar st on Mt. Lolo just north of Kamloops. Once with 5 of us and once with a whole platoon of about 28 we snuck upthe road and then up the mountain. Over the fence at about dawn and then a former Commando bashed in a window and we were in . Down to the room with two dozen TV displays and a giant illuminated map on the wall and that was it. Great times. I ended my time as a lance Staff Sgt. before I went to Simon Fraser University.
