This place is 5 stars. I had the Halibut fish n chips. The fish was cooked perfectly, batter crispy but light, not greasy. Fries were excellent. My wife had Sesame shrimp bowl, it was fantastic as well. Lots of shrimp and wonderful flavours. It’s rarely I see her tuck into a meal with such enthusiasm. Go early it can get busy.
We ended up in Cowichan Bay by chance, after turning down and following a random road, and luckily found the Rock Cod. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was dynamite!! I had the Seafood Chowder in a sourdough bowl... it hurt my heart that I couldn't finish it. It was delicious!! My husband had the Sockeye Salmon Burger and it was delicious! Thank you for wonderful food and service!!
Fantastic fried Cod, light crispy batter wrapped around a beautiful piece of cod. The Mates Plate with Cod, Oysters, Prawns , Chips and Coleslaw is a winner and washed down perfectly with a Rock Cod lager. People who work there are super friendly and it’s a must visit spot for fish and chips on Vancouver Island.
The menu was great. Was looking for some good seafood and this place delivered. My friend and I split the oyster po boy and the salmon and cod burger. The oysters were just ok but the burger with the smoked salmon bits was absolutely fantastic. My wife had fish and chips and was also very good! Worth the stop in
Food was delish, great service. I had the halibut noodle dish ... I will probably order the next time I'm there as it was really good. My spouse enjoyed his halibut... onion rings really good as well as sweet potato fries. Nice to have the side choices and not have to pay extra.
Overall, the food is delicious! The batter on the fish is incredibly crispy and delicious. Service was friendly but the food took a while to come. The side on one order was incorrect but we didn’t want to risk waiting again so we went with it. We will come again and continue to bring visitors here but this is not where you come if you’re in a hurry.
All food we ordered are really salty, especially the fried rice and noodle. The service is meh. We ordered a takeout and liked to get a seat inside realizing that our schedule is a bit tight, but the waitress was not very welcoming and suggested us a nearby park for seats.
Visited on Saturday October 15, and arrived as the restaurant was opening. Our waitress was absolutely amazing!! Excellent service and excellent food, could not ask for more. I wish I'd got her name she had beautiful black and orange nails. Super impressed, will be back for sure. Highly recommend!
Really disappointing. Had the cheese burger hoped for Tacos but they "weren't doing them that night". Burger patty looked like it came right out of the freezer and was dripping grease, fries were soggy and depressed, and the chipotle mayo was probably 6 parts mayo, 1 part chipotle. Really surprised given how high of a rating this place was, definitely won't be back given the poor food quality.
Fantastic Halibut and chips. The beer battered Halibut is meaty, and the batter is super light. The size of the 1 pce Halibut and chips simply had us gawking.. it tasted amazing. The fried chips tasted perfect, compliments to the Chef. Superb experience. Deserves a revisit.. and we should come by more often. The modest unassuming Rock Cod eatery really rates very high.
