The Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads cross each other at grade, creating a fantastic place to view heavy mainline freight action. Action is best viewed from the pavilion, situated in the southeast quadrant of the diamonds.
First time here. Should ve brought sandwiches! My lud loves this place!
I've been coming here since I was very young. I will say, it all depends on the day and time you come is how many trains you will see. Most of the trains you see will be on the Union Pacific line. Not saying you won't see any BNSF tho. There are times where you can come here and see trains back to back all day long. Then there are days when you wont see much at all. I've never had a day where I saw no trains. The only real complaint I have is when there are a bunch of kids that run around. Its best to just keep control of your kids so that they don't disturb anyone.
We came all the way from Florida and were not disappointed. The Town of Sterling did a phenomenal event today with The Big Boy Celebration. Very well planned and executed with food trucks, kids games, parking, lots of elderly help and their police security. Many Kudos and Thank yous.
If you like watching trains the is a great spot. UP and BNSF both a double main lines that cross each other. The grounds are always kept looking nice. There is also a pavilion that provides plenty of shade for all day train watching. If you want passenger trains this is not the spot for you as neither line has any passenger service on it.
