Story

Chairman James W. Wing, Trustees- Norman C. Jones, Harry Pritchard, H. Osmond Palmer, Floyd Snider, Gerald Thompson, Secretary-Treasurer Lloyd Bresee could not have picked a better location for Rideau Vista Public School built in 1967. H.H. Roberts was the architect and Roy Newcombe was the General Contractor. The farm land that the school is located on was acquired from Sterling and Isobel Shillington. It is often said that we have the school in the Upper Canada District School Board, formerly Leeds & Grenville School Board, with the million dollar view. Located at the junction of County Roads 10 and 42 in Westport, we have a view of Upper Rideau Lake.

Many of our staff came to our school in their earlier years, and the tradition continues with their own children. We are very fortunate to have a family oriented atmosphere where you will find the older students interacting with younger students at recess time.

Thanks to the efforts of a very aggressive fundraising group, past and present our students enjoy an exceptional playground facility, a Smart Board in every classroom, and lots of iPads for children to create on. Accessed daily is a computer lab with air conditioning where students expand their minds on the latest technology.

All students have quality daily physical activity either in the gym, outside or during Fitness Fridays which have been created by our Physical Education guru.

Our school is a junior kindergarten to grade 6 school. Our junior and senior kindergartens enjoy a play-based curriculum all day, every day. Routines are well established early in their young lives. As remarked by many community members, school staff and parents, Rideau Vista children often enter the high school environment displaying many excellent values and leadership abilities. What a wonderful stepping stone to becoming caring, successful adults who contribute much to society as a whole.
