I visited the Richmond Night Market on its 2026 opening day, when they offered free admission from 7–8 PM regular admission is $7.nnAs expected, the place was packed.nThe entrance area and parking lot were especially uncomfortable because sand or dust kept blowing around — definitely a “mask recommended” situation.nThankfully, once inside, the barricades blocked most of that, so it felt much better.nnAs North America’s largest night market, it had over 200 booths, and the scale really showed. Right after entering, they handed out $1 Happy Hour game coupons, which was a fun surprise.nnFood wait times varied a lot depending on the booth.nI first ordered a $25 fried chicken dish, but after waiting nearly an hour with no progress, I ended up getting a refund.nI switched to another booth and tried ramen with unique toppings — simple but tasty.nnMost vendors were cash‑only, though a few seemed to accept cards for purchases over a certain amount.nGames didn’t require waiting in line and were around $10–20 each.nnOverall, prices were on the expensive side, and the crowds were intense on opening day, but it was still a fun experience and worth visiting at least once.
This is my second time visiting the Richmond Night Market. The first time was many years ago when they were just starting. The Richmond Night Market is much better and much bigger now. The food and drinks section is still the busiest section at the night market. I like the choices of the many food options in the market. The retail section also offers many different types of items at very reasonable prices. The game section has so many kids who enjoy their evening and the yummy food. The Richmond Night Market is a nice place to go to the summer weekend event.
Richmond Night Market is what happens when you give Lower Mainland people deep fryers, neon lights, and absolutely zero financial supervision. We rolled in from Langley thinking we’d “just grab a snack” and left like survivors of a delicious economic collapse.nFirst mistake was arriving hungry. Second mistake was pretending we had self-control. One minute you’re looking at a $9 corn dog thinking, “That’s a bit steep,” and ten minutes later you’re holding a torch-fired cheesecake, bubble waffle the size of a truck tire, spicy karaage, and a drink that looked like it required municipal permits.nThe food was unreal. Every booth somehow competes to answer the question:n“How can we add more cheese, fire, sugar, or regret to this?”nAs a Langley guy, I appreciated the strategic early arrival. By the time we left, the parking lot looked like the Trans-Canada after a snowfall and people were circling for spots like seagulls fighting over a McDonald’s fry.nThe games were dangerous too. Nothing humbles a grown man faster than spending $25 trying to win a stuffed panda while a 9-year-old beside you casually dominates every challenge.n10/10 experience. Bring stretchy pants, patience, and a second mortgage for snacks.
My review is based mainly on accessibility and the experience of attending the Richmond Night Market as a wheelchair user.nI’m writing this as constructive feedback, not to criticize the management team, because I genuinely think the market is a great idea and something many people would enjoy experiencing.nnBefore attending, I emailed ahead, as I usually do, to ask whether the market was wheelchair accessible, if there were any accessible entrances, and whether discounts were available for wheelchair users attending with an aide. Unfortunately, the response I received was very limited and only mentioned that there was no special gate. I left the conversation still unsure about accessibility options or whether any discounts existed.nnI arrived around 7:00 PM, and getting into the market was extremely difficult. One of the biggest challenges was the loose gravel at the entrance. It was very hard to push a wheelchair through because much of the gravel was not packed down properly. At one point, I became stuck and needed help from a security guard to get moving again, which was honestly embarrassing.nnI was also surprised by the length of the lineup. Thankfully, I was using my wheelchair that evening. If I had been using my prosthetic leg and crutches instead, I honestly would have had to leave. The constant stopping and starting as the line slowly moved made it exhausting and very difficult to navigate comfortably.nnI also found the signage throughout the outside of the Night Market confusing and basically none existent. When trying to leave, I became disoriented and accidentally ended up out on the street at night with traffic nearby.nnOne more addition that I would love to see is clearly marked accessible entrance for people with mobility challenges, along with clearer communication about expected wait times before arriving. Accessible van parking spaces near the main entrance, with extra room for ramps, would also make a huge difference.nnSome form of discount for wheelchair users and their aides would also be appreciated. Because of the crowds and limited accessibility, it was difficult to move around, access vendors, or even get close enough to properly experience the food. In many cases, I could only visit vendors that had little or no lineup.nnI hope accessibility improvements can be considered in the future so more people with disabilities can comfortably enjoy the market experience.nI do realize, change doesn't happen overnight but maybe next time the board meets this can be discussed.nI do realize that disabled people probably represent a small portion of your clientele but maybe this can be the first market to cater to us.nnI travel from out of town regularly for medical appointments and would genuinely love to bring my family to the market in the future — but only if accessibility improves.
Richmond Night Market is one of the best places to visit during summer in BC nThere’s a huge variety of Asian street food, fun games, and unique little shops all in one place. The atmosphere is lively and exciting, especially at night with all the lights and music. It can get very crowded on weekends, but it’s still a fun experience if you enjoy trying different foods and exploring night markets.
