Quest Art formed in 1995 by 8 artists. Current membership: approx: 425. In 2003 the gallery moved to Penetanguishene, and in 2009 relocated to Midland.
In June 2012, Quest Art became an anchor tenant in the Midland Cultural Centre.
Quest Art School + Gallery’s daily activities are largely carried out and supported by volunteers, many of whom are professional and practicing artists and artisans who value what Quest Art provides to the region and are dedicated to advancing a healthy cultural centre within North Simcoe.
Our full-time Director and three part-time staff including Curator, Education Officer and Community & Volunteer Coordinator are supported by volunteer committees including: Exhibitions, Education, Fundraising, Membership to name a few.
Our contract artist/educators are accomplished practicing artists, many with additional experience and background in education.
A dedicated classroom plus a secondary adaptable exhibition/class space allowed an expansion of visual art education programs permitting school visits and a variety learning experiences for children, youth, adults and seniors, offered at novice through expert levels.
We serve the community of North Simcoe including: Midland, Penetanguishene and the townships of Tay and Tiny. We also engage with Severn Township, Springwater Township, Wasaga Beach, and Collingwood.
We are the largest, most active visual-art organization within a 50km radius of a largely rural population of 125,500 sprawled over 1,655 square km.
Quest Art is recognized for providing exhibition opportunities for the local and regional art community via rotating juried and curated exhibitions. Within 3,500 square feet of exhibition space are three public art gallery spaces which in turn showcase the work of area and community artists, area mid-career professional artists, and established artists with a provincial, national, or international profile.
Exhibitions are themed to highlight contemporary topics or use of material, and draw attention to regional and contemporary issues including industry, environment, gender, Indigenous & Franco/Metis, identity and distinctiveness.
The exhibitions rotate 5 times annually resulting in 15 separate exhibition experiences.
