This area is now inaccessible and off-limits to sport fishermen who used to wade or use the FREE boat ramp
A beautiful spot to observe the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the Island of Montreal, and the islands of Varennes and Repentigny. There is a small parking lot for 10 cars. The boat launch has a very steep incline. It can accommodate small motorized boats, kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards SUPs.nnThe old federal wharf in Varennes was built around the mid-18th century for navigation on the river transport network using steamships. It was initially made of wood, then rebuilt in stone and cement. It was called the Grand-Quai Great Wharf because there was a second, smaller wharf built at the foot of the Sainte-Anne Basilica in Varennes and the rapids opposite it. The Petit-Quai Little Wharf has long since disappeared. Around the 1980s, the federal government transferred maintenance services to the municipalities along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The City of Varennes renamed it Bellevue Wharf. The municipality of Varennes has built a second wharf, this one floating, in the large De-la-Commune Park, a little further upstream.nnFor over 80 years, during the 18th century, steamboats transported goods and passengers. They connected towns and villages between Montreal and Quebec City via the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries, such as the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain on the American side, in the states of New York and Vermont.nn
A lovely spot for watching the river and ships. There's a small parking lot that's rarely full. Note that the site is now called Quai de Bellevue.
The river shuttle boat was poorly designed, the captain seemed stupid, he took my brand new bike to lock it to the railing! I'm not going to let them damage my brand new bike for a boat trip!
