Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre
"The PWNHC holds in trust for the public a large collection of objects that represent the peoples and cultures of the NWT, and produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is “more than a museum”. In addition to its exhibits, collections and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT."

The staff at the front entrance was knowledgeable & friendly. He had a little introduction he probably perfected over his time working here. He was nice & even held my bag from shopping earlier behind the counter. I appreciated that. I enjoyed this museum & will come back again to see if anything changes or updates. Beautiful displays, I recommend you check it out.
A great fun place to spend an hour or two, learning and seeing the interesting history and development of the town and area. A lot of fun displays and artifacts and galleries for all ages. Even has a children’s playroom with plenty to do. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Free admission, plenty of parking. Clean and well maintained.
Fantastic activity to do while Yellowknife. The exhibits are well laid out and give some good insights into the local history and culture of the Yellowknife region, as well as other parts of the NWT. Entry is free, but donations are recommended and deserved.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Lots of informative stuff to walk around and experience about the history of Yellowknife, indigenous peoples, languages, travel routes, wildlife in the area and settlers. Some of the exhibits are interactive with experience through sounds, visuals, touch etc.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A must visit. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre boasts a lot of exhibits which feature but not limited to Northwest Territory's culture, wildlife, history and other documentation. There is so much to look at this heritage centre with accompanying slides of information. Kids would love this place because of the taxidermy displays and skulls of extinct animals that roamed here before. Very interesting all together and very worth your while.
Admission by donation. Excellent museum and events are often hosted, be sure to check website. I managed to catch an incredible local piano concert!

Informative and interesting museum, friendly staff, with plenty of space to explore and walk around. The cafe on the second floor was closed off when we went, but it's a beautiful space with high arched ceilings. Entrance is free but donations are welcome.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Excellent small museum. Very well done. Takes at least a few hours. Amazing piece of 55million year old wood found in mine. Wood. Not fossilized.Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+
Very cute museum. It's not super big, but it is quite beautiful and modern. I didn't know they had tours, but walked in just as one started on a Friday. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Got to learn about the natives and how they survived, the types of stones and elements found here, the types of animals in the north, and a few other interesting facts. It's all free, and certainly worth the trip.
