I ordered a taxi in advance, for my daughter, from Harbour Air on Powell Lake to the Westview ferry terminal. The dispatcher was very professional and concise. The taxi was waiting for her at least 5 min before the requested time, which was a really nice touch. The driver was very understanding of our need to get to the ferry asap, but couldn't make any promises. He actually made a call to the ferry team asking for a couple min delay so she could catch it and drove her safely on time! Above and beyond service for both taxi company and ferry personnel!
The drivers are always friendly and get you where you need to go. I've had mixed experiences with dispatch. The last time I called the woman I spoke with was incredibly rude and dismissive. I was asking for pick-up at a particular time which she said was not possible totally fine, I understand that they don't have many drivers but wow, she was just so rude about it.
The dispatcher was excellent! But they only had one driver on. We called in advance and they said they could get us. They ended up running late and with that we would have only been able to stay at the event for 45mins before we would have been able to take the last cab and go home. And then they called again and just cancelled on us totally.
It's the only taxi service available in Powell River, I think it's usually a bit of a waitapprox 30mins + especially if you're trying to catch a cab after the bars close or during the holidays. Before 11am and after 630pm, but especially later in the evening or after the bars close, this is pretty much your only option other than walking. I really wish they had more drivers available during busier periods and in the winter because waiting 30-60min in the cold is unrealistic considering there not too many places that take longer to walk and you stay warmer walking then standing in the cold. Thankfully there is the zunga bus as another option from 11am-630pm and it's only $2.25 from your doorusually to wherever you need to go.
So not only do they forget to call you back but they give an estimate time that always varies so you never know when, they will only call once, and not honk. Saying because I missed it I can’t use a cab again tonight. I don’t even live that far from town. The dispatcher lady sounds rude to be honest. Like what if I was drunk and decided to drive because you turned me down?
Called a total of 5 times on August 23rd, 2022 and got no answer, ended up late to work because I had to resort to taking the bus. Don't waste your time, plan ahead if you want a reliable ride.
This is a 24 7 365 days a year service yet not once I have even had them Pick up their phone while trying to get a morning ride to the ferry !! Horrible advertising saying 24 7 and literally after my 3 rd morning trying to organize a ride …I still haven’t even had them pick up the phone !!! Use zunga when you can , the guy running this taxi service in Powell river is useless !
They show up when they say they will and get you to where you need to go. The drivers mostly, borderline, should not be driving a car. Definitely a cultural experience.
