The biggest animals are the Rhino and Camels. The pony rides were closed when we went. I loved watching the silver eyed wolf pacing about. The Rhino was quite active but all the big cats were being lazy at mid-day. I recommend mosquito spray! Not as many kid play areas as other zoos in the state, our kids commented on this as we left. Overall it's a fun way to spend an hour or 2 in the morning to see more activity. A nice excuse to get some exercise!
We LOVE Potter Park Zoo! I went there as a kid for field trips and now bring my kids there. It is plenty big to see a wide variety of animals but small enough that my 3 year old will walk it with no complaints. They have both endangered species as well as local animals such as elk and Bald Eagles.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10
The best zoo I have ever been to ! I have never been to a zoo where you could get so up-close to the animals. You could also tell that all the animals here were well taken care of and shown lots of love. The animals here all had sweet little stories of how/why they were brought in. Some were there to be rehabilitated, and others were there because they're endangered. It was so amazing how the animals were given the option of being out in the open to be seen by everyone & then to also be able to have their alone time. My favorite highlights were the bats & the owls!! I will definitely come back for the butterflies though, because it was closed when I went.
Quaint zoo. The food courts are closed during the winter, but the gift shop is still open. The zoo was pretty much empty aside from the animals. However, most of the African animals were no where to be seen and I assume it was because it was too cold for them. It would be cool if there was a way to see them in an indoor setting during the cold months.
I really like this zoo. I go every few years. They keep it in nice condition. They have a pavilion. Other picnic tables under large oak trees. Playground. The exhibits are well kept. It sure is a nice way to spend the day.
The Ice Safari they had on 2-12 also 2-13, and the weekend of 2-19/2-20 was AMAZING and so fun!! They had hot cocoa available and it was amazing to see how active the animals are during the winter! My son adored the tiger and lion, and the otters put on a heck of a show!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
I haven't been to this zoo since I was a child and I didn't remember anything about it outside what I had photos of, so when we were on a car trip and our daughter asked if we could get out to stretch our legs, we figured this would be a fun stop. I have never visited a zoo in the winter and wasn't sure what we could expect to find, but there were still plenty of animals wandering their exhibits. We did stop on a warm winter day 40s so that probably helped with animals being out and moving around. Our favorite animals were the otters, lions, and monkeys but there were so many more. They also offer a discounted entry during the winter months so we paid a total of $14 plus tax for our entry tickets and you can't beat that price for a little bit of fun outside.
Haven't been to Potter Park in a few years, we went mid day on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. Ended up spending the afternoon, complete with a ice cream treat and a trip to the gift shop. It was great! We'll be back next year!
They take good care of the animals and have a surprising variety. Signage could be updated, as they haven't had a moose in a few years. Even in winter, this place is worth visiting.Visited onWeekday
Neighborhood zoo with beautiful picnic area and playground. Don't expect big and flashy. Enjoyable every visit. Always staff roaming about and tending to grounds and exhibits. Staff is friendly. Worth the membership for reciprocal admissions to other zoos/aquariums nationwide. Ample parking. Typically experience field trips visiting on weekday mornings. Animals are sometimes active and sometimes actively napping. Very close proximity to animals which makes a great opportunity for engagement. Many animals are engaging and lower perched Eagle is a blinker We are missing our bird buddies recently but appreciate PPZoo for keeping them safe! Baby lemur is handsome and what a special experience to watch him grow! We visit zoos throughout the states and PPZoo is one of my favorites. Some of the animals nap undercover or they might be on a break from exhibit. Overall, great variety of animals. It's chill! The flowers and trees throughout are nice and upkept nicely. Obviously care is given to the facilities as workers were updating structures our most recent visit. Hours change for seasons. Go with no expectations! You/with family can visit with a MAP library pass for discount/free. Ingham County residents get in free on Monday with $3 parking. Support local!
