love this place in Matane but we didn’t have like to observe the salmon. this place next to parc des îles it was an advantage to my kid to take time to play there.
It’s true that the salmon don’t swim up river all year long but you have really good odds of seeing some between June and August.nnWatching out for them at the observation post makes it an even better experience. You are able to look for them underground in a room with large windows showing you the path they would take swimming against the current. You can also hide here from the elements; sun, heat, rain…nnOn this particular afternoon, we were lucky to see 5 of salmon come through within about 15 minutes. I guess we were there at the right time.nnThe window has an outline of a salmon with measurements on it to help you quickly identify how big of a salmon you’re seeing!nnOne of ours lined up perfectly with the outline like he had done this 100 times. LolnnThis free outing is a must do while visiting!
Nice park for a stop over.
Our first visit to Matane. Perhaps it was the wrong time of the year but we didn’t get to observe and salmon from the observation point.nnWe did take the time to have a look at the river and the town. Do more research to ensure you come at the right time period to see the salmon.
Looks like a great demonstration exhibit. Unfortunately it is closed this year due to low water levels.
