After many times here for lunch I've upped their review as it's a great meal consistently. Great vermicelli bowl. For comparison, their crispy roll was tastier and better texture than Green Leaf Bistro's and their grilled pork meat was very tasty as well. I'm always pleased with my food here. Overall great meals in or to go and staff has always been great for pick up at lunch and ready in 10-15 mins, or eating in.
They always give a healthy amount of meat in the steak pho because I also ordered steak Pho from another location to confirm. Plus they offer a beef rib upgrade. Good flavor overall done well.
My siblings and I were hesitant to try a pho restaurant in Canada since we know what good pho is. We are surprised by how decent the pho is here at Pho Tru. The broth is clean, flavorful, seasoned nicely, and has the aromas typical of beef pho. I felt the amount of meat was pretty small and would prefer my bean sprouts, basil, and lime on the side. Service was excellent!! Staff were very friendly and happy to answer my family's plethora of questions. This place is pretty good, and I'd definitely come back!
Came here by default as we were trying to find another restaurant, but these guys were closer. We ordered steak vermicelli, spring rolls, #62 rare beef and beef ball Phở, side rice, 1 viet coffee, 1 side saté broth, and 3 tea. Came to $70ish. The postives: The spring rolls are probably some of the best I've had in North America. I've eaten Viet all over. The grilled steak for the vermicelli dish my mom had was tasty and tender. I especially enjoyed the shallots and cilantro I the bowl. The meat for the Phở was fresh and tasty. Their saté Phở, while it's not authentic - was full-bodied and different from the style of saté I've had in AB with coconut milk added. The negatives: My broth wasn't hot enough for me. I like to scald my tongue. The saté broth was though. The Vietnamese coffee needed more of a stronger brew on the amount of water. It lacked the thickness you need of a strong espresso brewed viet coffee. Also, while the regular broth had a good amount of the spice blend, it lacked the beefy bone umami. Tasted a bit bland. You need the big bold bone flavor and a little bit of the fat from the marrow for a well-rounded bowl of Phở. I'd go back for the spring rolls and vermicelli.. and maybe the saté. Also, the price is a little steep for what I usually pay. Don't come for the ambiance unless you want the ambiance of true Vietnam styles.
I wish I could leave multiple 5 star reviews! Outstanding pho, especially the spicy #23. Just tried hot and sour and epic! Staff are friendly. BOBBY is the da best!! For the spicy beef satay I asked for extra peanuts on the side.
If I had to summarize my review in two words, I'd say "it's ok". I've eaten a lot of Pho after living in Vancouver for over 40 years so this place didn't compare or hit the mark for me. I had the regular sized #62. Outside of there being no atmosphere, it doesn't look very clean inside, and I have to order my food at a counter, the soup broth was not that hot and it lacked flavour. The one positive for me was that meat was decent. Overall tho, I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be back.
Really depends what you want - Imho this is the best Pho in town. It's delicious!!! As for their summer rolls, very mediocre. Like, way worse than other places. Summer roll dip pretty good though. Vermicelli bowls very good, but not exceptional. If you're seeking Pho, this is The Place To Go. It's so so so good. For other dishes, I would choose a different place...
We dined here during our recent stay in Victoria. Hubby is more of a pho expert and he thought it was pretty good but didn’t “wow” him. I got the spicy beef lemongrass soup. I thought it was good… I didn’t really like whatever jelly-type thing was in it or the beef balls. I added a bit of spice to it but overall it had great flavour. The fresh rolls were also quite yummy and I enjoyed the peanut sauce it came with!
I devoured my beef vermicelli dish! The meal was delicious and hit the spot. The service was fantastic and he was very attentive. I will definitely be back to try more on the menu!
The boss is very aggressive and that I'm just trying to change the order and it's kick me out and bend me from going to that restaurant. Please don't go there. Go to a better place that treats you better. I really recommend green leaf. It's the best Vietnamese restaurant in VictoriaFood: 1/5
