I'd been here a number of years ago when visiting for a weekend. I carried their reusable grocery bag around and many of my Ontario friends already knew all about Pete's Frootique and their wonderful assortment of ready to eat and other unique grocery items. Imagine my disappointment on this visit when we were the only customers in the store and found nothing at all intriguing or dinner worthy. We left with just a $6 for a loaf of bread. Our ready to eat was a soggy sandwich from a stand in the mall :
Not big but has interesting goods that another food-giants haven't or with a higher prices. I don't think that I will come here for a regular big shopping to full my fridge, but definitely will visit it to find some missing or simply interesting things like spices, which were not available in any large store where I was.
I love Pete's! My husband is from the UK, and when we moved here from Ontario I was worried about where we would get all of our favourite products! To date, I have been able to find everything we need! Outside of UK products, their produce and baked goods are amazing quality, and they are often fully stocked. I also love that I can buy individual pieces of produce like one carrot instead of a 2lb bag I don't need and often goes to waste. The team works hard to keep the store clean, too. Their deli/food bar has a really great variety of different foods; We love getting our ingredients here for charcuterie because of the broad selection of products. Their meat counter is exceptional quality and we can often find obscure produce and proteins here. They also make excellent cheese and meat boards! So glad to have a store like this close to home! If you like to purchase seasonal items from the UK, be sure to buy early as they sell out quickly. One of our most exciting discoveries recently is Farm Boy products, as it was our go-to market when we lived in Ontario.
I haven't been to Pete's for a while. There are still many options for buying warm ready to eat food. The most obvious one was too busy to take a pic without getting customer faces caught in the pic. I try not to do that. The new thing to me anyway, was the gourmet, ready to eat pizzas by the slice. See pics They looked amazing! Great variety and display. Lots of staff taking care of the pizzas and answering questions. Written descriptions were well put together. I miss the energy that Pete brought to the business, but under sobeys ownership it is still a nice place to go.
Purchased some pork grenades from the butcher section of Pete’s. Most items in the store are painfully expensive but I splurged for these delicious babies. Highly recommend them! Cost 24$ for 3 large portions
