I appreciate that they carry used supplies, I think that makes it easier for more people to provide better quality care to their animals. The place was decently organized, but didn't seem very clean and certainly smelled. I don't know the new ownership - or what their sourcing is for the animals they sell. I get supplies here, but I wouldn't buy an animal, go to the shelters for that.
There's this one worker who is an old friend that is very nice and very attractive. My brother and I go in every now and then to say hi and look at the animals. Has a very positive vibe every time I go there. Prices are not to bad. I use to get toys there for my dog when I had her.
bought my ferret yesterday from pet trader. I was just looking around at first but the staff are still super friendly. when I asked my gazillion questions, the lady there answered them all no problem. the staff there are both pet owners so they have personal experience too. she helped me to purchase the ferret and everything I need. put the excellent service aside, the pricing is much more reasonable compare to pet store franchises, and staff are obviously much more helpful, when I went to petlands to ask about ferret vet they couldn't even introduce one to me, I did not ask and pet trader provided me that information already. will definitely go back. the only problem is my little friend almost got out of the box on the way home! but that was a fun surprise.
I had been going to Pet Traders for years before I bothered to check out their google reviews, for a locally owned business you’d think they’d have more awesome reviews. Pettraders doesn’t offer very much for purchasing of used items, spending over $1000 on items brand new to have to downsize abruptly and only having the store purchase them for $100. Who knows what they resell at. One of their employees constantly has ripped clothing, which isn’t professional and further than just normal tears in jeans. Being casual has its limits. There’s always animals behind the counter. One time I had purchased a hood lamp that had a ton of acid wear on the outlet portion, which I didn’t understand why they sold it like that. Obviously I should’ve paid more attention to what I was buying. The employees are friendly enough if you go around once in a while, but it seems like the employees don’t really last very long. In the last 4 years there’s been so many new faces. It’s true though the counter is never cleaned, their colossal rats are usually large at most. Most of the female employees act like they’d rather be anywhere else or have an air of “I know better than you so why are you asking these basic questions”. Locally owned businesses are wonderful, but for quality Winnipeg reptiles is clearly the winner here, and they’re a tad overpriced as is.
Lovely place! All animals are healthy and have proper care, the store is clean and staff are super friendly. I recently brought a bearded dragon home from Pet Trader's and im not usually the one to buy from pet stores, but i fully trust this one. He's happy and healthy! All my experiences there have been positive so im looking forward to buying from them again :
Things are decently priced. But what really had me surprised was the presentation of the store. As soon as I walked in, it had a really bad smell to it. The used smaller fish tanks they had weren’t even clean, which threw me off. And the store wasn’t clean, the front desk was a mess and no one was doing anything about it. I’m not trying to tell them how they should do their job, but you should at least do the things that your getting paid to do.
There are bigger and even better pet stores, but this one certainly has charm. Although I adopted a cat that the store had treated poorly years ago, I have come to realize that this was an anomaly rather then the norm. The staff is knowledgeable, well meaning and kind. The pet selection is good, the supplies acceptable and the crickets are the cheapest in the city. If you purchase their cricket cards you ate basically paying less then a nickel per large cricket, which is great! Recommended in most cases.
While the prices were very competitive, I found the store cluttered and difficult to navigate. The animal care was mediocre at best. The staff seemed knowledgeable about the fish in the store, but couldn’t answer any of my questions about the bunnies and rodents. Over all, Pet Traders is a good place to go if you know EXACTLY what you’re looking for or want a product used, but not the place for a first-time pet owner to get info about their pet. If you’re getting an animal or full set-up, go someplace else.
The store is hard to navigate and it smells, but they good new and used product. once you figure out where it is, which you will be doing by yourself cause it seems the staff never leave the front desk or back room. Don’t buy crickets here either, they are always dead within a few days no matter how hard you try to keep them alive. And finally the store has some of the WORST operating hours the don’t open till 11:30 which is insane, I’d understand if it was to come in early and care for the animals in disturbed but it’s not. Clearly or the fish wouldn’t die so fast and the big a$$ fish up front wouldn’t look like it was living in swamp water
Great service, friendly and knowledgeable staff. They genuinely care about your pets. And fantastic prices... Watch out. I regularly snipe cheap stuff. LOL and FYI retards... Bad health reviews they take in used animals/reptiles and house them after taking them to the vet sometimes... Which they don't sell until back to full health... Which is probably that exact bearded dragon mentioned in the earlier comments. And more than I can say MOST business would even consider doing. And Do you honestly expect to be waited on in a non commission job? Get over yourself, and go talk to them. Wake up... They're probably better pet owners than these with the rude comments... They only all own like 3-5 reptiles/animals a piece.. they'll even hold products for you if you become regular... And need a day to grab it. Honestly... I dare... In fact challenge anyone to find a non healthy pet there that doesn't have "Not for sale yet" written on the tank... You won't, and you can't lie and deny that. I have even made friends just talked to mass other or owners at that store because we're all talking to the employees.. Don't lie because you aren't decent... These reviews make a a slight difference, and that is just clearly biased opinions for whatever reasons.
