The hands-on care for my mother was personal and caring. Despite being a POA for her, management chose not to include me in communication about her when doing so with her husband. Choices for where people are placed in long-term care are next to none. Even given that reality I cannot recommend this for-profit facility. If it is a case of Hobb's choice then set written parameters for management's communication with you and engage LHIN should you need to.
After being at Tavistock for multiple weeks to observe the processes and routines of the staff, I had nothing but positive experiences with everyone I had the opportunity to interact with. The staff were all very warm and treated each other like family. This was also extended to the way the staff interacted with the residents. Many residents can be observed interacting with staff as though they have known the staff for their entire lives. The team also does a very great job at engaging families. During the Christmas season, staff come together to serve residents and their families with a cozy and familial style Christmas Meal. This has left the families with nothing but positive feedback to give. This facility is definitely a home rather than an institution.
My father had his head smashed by falling backwards while in a transporting wheel chair because he was left unattended in it. He was put into bed with some ice and no one called to let us know. There was no follow up, no doctor or examination. I had to demand that he got examined and that took so many times of getting upset to get done.nAfter one month from when he arrived he was a zombie by being over drugged.nNo one informed us that his drugs were going to be changed. I was lied to when asked if they were. When I requested to see his charts their response was “sorry they have been misplaced.”nWhen I called the pharmacy they told me they were told that I gave permission for the drugs. After informing that it was a lie they put an alert on any changes to his medication not to happen without calling me directly.nHe was a different man within days and was no longer bed ridden or falling.nHe was there to be helped and cared for from a stroke not drug him.nAfter getting him out of there he has recovered and can look after himself again.nI know no place is perfect but out of three places he was in this was the worst.
You have to be independent. You won't get much help.nOld, stuffy, claustrophobic building. Staff act brainwashed like they are in a cult. Bad experience.
My aunt lives here...she loves it..which makes us all happy
