you can drive all the way to the top. its a beautiful view. the observatory has boards which information about light pollution and intresting facts definitely a great place to visit the welcome office at the bottom of the mountain is also a souvenir shop with adorable toys shaped like planets i wish i had taken a picture!
Mont-Megantic is a beautiful and huge park with so much to explore! Staff people are knowledgeable and ready to educate us! Program are good and the facilities are excellent. There are several different areas in this huge park -- so plan carefully in advance.
Get there early! Before 9 am and you'll have a decent parking space. We stayed at a refuge mont saint Joseph and it was perfect! Privacy is a little difficult at the refuge until sunset because it's on a trail with a lot of traffic.
Fantastic ECHO cabins for winter use. Good hiking trails and not too far from Montreal for a weekend getaway.
On Victoria Day, we went to Secteur Franceville and nobody was present at the gate to check tickets you can just drive in and start hiking. We have the yearly passes so that worked out. It was very clean bathrooms, eating benches etc. All trails start from the same spot so you enter, park, start to walk and then break out into your trail options! Stunning lookouts. Well worth it. You can even see the observatory from this Secteur.
Before heading to the center/entrance, a guy was guiding traffic to parking on the side and I did see a lots of car parking there. Being told the parking was full. There will be a school bus to carry you to the center. The procedure doesn’t make any sense to me, and I chose to go head and found there has tons of space for parking out the center. Also how can the people want to go to some trails without driving as the school bus only drop off at the center. The trails have lots of fun, some are good for the family and you can find the details on the map. I was expecting to look more colours this time, maybe need wait for another 2 weeks. Outlook was amazing!
I like the trails, it's really cool, especially the moss, love it so much, and you can find quite bunch of different mushrooms, and maybe lucky to meet the cute bird : It is great view on the top, can see lots mountains in layers! Suggest to park your car in middle of the mountain, and hike to the top by forest trail, come back from the road, so your knees won't get too much burden.
A wonderful view of the night sky from this dark sky preserve. So glad that we booked a cabin for the night because it was quite cold in a tent the following day. The necessities were provided, from wood to fire starter and two comfortable muskoka chairs!
Beauitful park. Tons of activities for families or couples. Hiking trails, stars viewing at night, museums, multiple sight seeing places. Beauitful views surrounded by mounts and the staff is always friendly and helpful. We personally had some issues with the language as everything is in French. Nevertheless, we learnt so much about astronomy at Mont-Megantic National Park while still enjoying the beauitful nature.
Lovely park. We went in the winter and wanted to try snow rackets, but the staff advised us to try crampons instead. It was indeed a better choice at that time. The hike to Mont Saint Joseph was really nice, and the views from up there are breathtaking.
